Crimson Chain turned one year-old the beginning of September! It’s hard to believe this thing is already one year-old, but it’s also hard to believe it’s only one year-old….
I have absolutely adored creating, designing, and angsting these characters and I could not have done it without @icywolfos. They are as much mine as they are theirs. And I look forward to creating even more with them. <3
This is single-handedly the most people I’ve drawn in a single piece, but I love how it came out. And I think my first time full on inking and coloring some of the chain members which is a bonus! This does mean the sketches are insane though, I’ll attach some under the cut as a treat. :3
Figured I make more detailed drawings of the Crimson Chain gang- it's been a while since I've drawn them and the height chart isn't exactly a super detailed reference for them!
Have a miscellaneous non-spoilery fun fact about each of them under the cut!
you're also getting pronouns because i haven't actually posted those anywhere whoops
Crimson (He/Him)- Only present father of the group
Prism(He/They, Uses We/Us to refer to themselves)- not really a real person
Mask (He/They)- looks more like the other Kokiri now
Wolf (He/Him)- got that dark crystal hrt (this one i am willing to explain in a separate post if anyone wants more context)
Bunny (He/She)- bastard child
Ravio (He/Him)- Yuga's mom unofficially adopted him
Torrent (He/Him)- lost a kidney during WW (got eaten)
Wander (They/He)- his blood glitters, but it's not because he's fae
Whisper (He/Him)- his mom is a very very brave woman (he is half dragon)
Fauna (He/She/They)-the shrine of resurrection is not why his eyes glow now
Mild (He/Him)- Shrine worked too well
Rinka (They/Them, but goes by any)- they're like if a cat was a contortionist. their bones are bendy
and yes I did image descriptions- i've never done them before so i hope they're at least adequate. @foooxobsessedperson helped with the descriptions <3
Shifting of Shadows has quite a few things different than Breath of the Wild, besides the light horror elements, but overall the story is mostly the same- unlike Above, Below and Beyond when compared to Tears of the Kingdom.

Anyway, have a short companion fic for this piece
Mild stared up at the towering walls around them, made of a material he nor Rinka could get a good grip on, leaving them to actually solve the labyrinth in the way the monk intended.
He really should've suspected that this would be a shrine quest when he saw the towering structure from a distance, but he and Rinka were a bit too busy fleeing from a white lynel to think it through.
They'd both given a sigh of relief as the entrance to the labyrinth sealed behind them, but the brief moment of respite was immediately ruined by the realization that they were stuck- both had tried multiple methods of trying to climb the walls, and all failed. Rinka's ability to teleport had been blocked as well.
He was glad he'd bought the cold weather gear from rito village before exploring the freezing Hebra and Tabantha regions.
There had been a small hiccup as both he and Rinka realized they wouldn't fit in the clothing for sale, and they didn't have the time or money to get them a full custom tailored set.
The custom fur cloak he had bought for them in place of a full set helped them blend in with the snowy environment much better than their usual attire- their firey mane of hair was the only bright spot of color on them.
Rinka shifted their weight between their bare paws, snow crunching as they did. Their expression tighter than usual as they scanned their surroundings. Their ears shot up with surprise when the Monk hidden somewhere in the labyrinth began to speak, outlining their trial for Mild.
Both of them stood still afterwards, now that the monk was no longer speaking they both could hear something... mechanical sounding. It was quiet as it slowly got louder, then quieter.
Putting aside their earlier animosity towards him, Rinka and Mild exchanged a nervous look, both hoping that whatever was making the noise wasn't what they thought it was.
But both of them knew how their collective luck was like.
Mild took the lead, the trial was meant for him, after all. They walked in uneasy silence- the world so much quieter when blanketed in snow and surrounded by towering walls.
He didn't know how long they'd walked- he hadn't checked the time on his sheikah slate when they'd arrived. They had long since lost sight of the entrance, but the colossal, towering walls seemingly went on forever in every direction he could see.
He knew that, realistically, the maze was only so big- but the fog and snow dramatically reduced visibility to almost nothing. The pathway was just small enough to at least see both walls on either side of them.
It only took him a moment to realize Rinka's footsteps had stopped, and he turned to face them, confused.
Their piercing gaze was examining a broken chunk of the wall, a small alcove, a small shelter in the endless snow. Rinka glanced down at him from the corner of their eye, lower face covered by the fur collar of their cloak.
"We should take shelter for the night," their murmur felt too loud in the silent atmosphere. Mild hummed, not disagreeing.
"We've been traveling for a while, even before we got here. This is the best place to set up camp that we've come across," Rinka continued- Mild couldn't help but notice this was the most they'd spoken in a while.
He swiped through his slate, checking his supplies. he had plenty of firewood, though he'd have to start any fires with flint since he didn't have any fire weapons on hand, and he didn't feel like wasting his precious supply of fire arrows.
On the same wavelength, the pair exchanged no words as they began moving snow away from under the small alcove into small mounds that kept out the little wind that flowed in the maze.
Rinka stood at the edge of their little cleared out area, long ears twitching as they kept watch while Mild set up camp.
Lost in the flow of trying to carefully make a spark with his flint and a small knife he'd purchased in Hateno, he was jolted out of his focus as he heard a sudden shift of movement from behind him.
He didn't even have time to turn around before a hand grabbed him by the back of his collar, hauling him into the air before a sudden solid impact made him wheeze.
In a fluid movement Rinka had wrapped their arms around him and sat heavily on the ground, hunched over him as they stared, wide eyed, over their shoulder.
"Wha-" Mild was cut off by a large, gloved hand covering the entire lower half of his face. Squirming in place he tried to turn and look up at his companion- whose ears were standing straight up.
It was a little jarring to go from just barely keeping out the cold with his worn, warm doublet, to the burning heat radiating from his back pressed against Rinka.
It wasn't long before he also took notice of what they had.
Hunched near the edge of the wall, Rinka was barely able to peek around- their body preventing Mild from seeing anything, but he didn't need to see to hear the sound of... something approaching.
He froze when Rinka bent down, murmuring next to his ear,
"Guardian," their voice was barely a whisper but even that felt too loud.
Mild's stomach clenched with anxiety. So far his game plan for the guardians he'd come across in hyrule was just booking it, or taking a wide path around their route- for the ones that moved, that is. The ruined stationary ones were easier, if time-consuming, to work with.
The mechanical sound of the spider-like construct's multiple legs felt deafening in the silent night.
Rinka's grip was just slightly too tight to be comfortable, but he couldn't find it in himself to say anything.
He didn't know how long they sat, huddled tensely against each other and straining to hear as the sounds of the guardian began to get quieter.
Eventually, it had been quiet long enough for them to start relaxing. Rinka's arms wrapped around him didn't fall, though.
Awkwardly, Rinka shuffled the both of them across the cleared ground, closer to the firewood he had set up, but hadn't lit.
His companion didn't release him, instead reaching out with one gauntlet covered hand- the red gems on it flashing- and threw out a small ember of magic at the wood.
It took a moment, but a fire quickly grew, flames licking at the air above it and eating at the crackling wood.
Rinka relaxed their grip around Mild, but still held him close. It was warmer to stay huddled together like this in the cold night.
Mild tried looking up again, attempting to see even a glimpse of their expression, but all he could see was below their jaw and the vibrant red bangs that went past their chin.
He couldn't help but think about the nights he curled up against Dusk- long before he knew they weren't actually a wolf.
A puff of air left his lips, his breath fogging up in the chill air.
He leaned back up against Rinka, eyes heavy as he sank into the warmth behind him. Idly taking note of how they readjusted to make him more comfortable.
Mild wouldn't bring it up in the morning if Rinka didn't.
