An entire prison is moving...
It’s not the US, but no less interesting. These are very European prisons. Switzerland follows the Scandinavian model when it comes to modern prisons. The focus is not on punishment and dehumanisation, but on therapy, reflection, remorse and resocialization. Every prisoner is treated with respect and dignity.
Solitary confinement, searches and cell inspections do, of course, take place. There are also penalties for breaches of the rules.
This documentary provides a very good insight into the modern prison system in Switzerland. It is a high-security prison. Certain images may give a misleading impression of this. There are multiple murderers and child abusers there.
From 24:35 onwards, you can see the museum in the basement of the new prison. There, you can see that the prison system used to be quite different.
When it comes to role-play, I’m a fan of the American prison system. It’s much more interesting to experience it in a playful way. But when it comes to reality, I think the Scandinavian (European) prison system is far superior. Recidivism rates are much lower here than in the US. The harshness practised in the USA does society no good.
