I have a travesty of a saber  that my late grand farther  brought with him from the UK  to Australia after the war,  was to lazy to keep cleaned  so  he had chromed.  the leather wrap is beyond repair  as it was left on when it was chromed the blade and guard all have proof marks and such but  im struggling to even find what the model and make of the blade truly are.  the family story is its a  Scottish lancer cavalry sword   if any one knows what this actually is please let me know

A quick colour test. A few things off here and there, but looks promising.
A British 1908 pattern cavalry sword, manufactured in the 16th of April 1916. It carries three Government inspection marks from Enfield as well as the War Department arrow of acceptance into service. This type of blade sacrificed its cutting capacity almost completely in order to become extremely effective at the thrust. The scabbard was designed to hang from the saddle. Since it has been sharpened it’s very likely that it was used during WWI.
