#Repost @natgeo with @repostapp ・・・ Photo by @FransLanting A lion in his prime is a glorious sight, but not many make it to this stage. They run into trouble with rivals—or people. A black-maned Kalahari lion like this one is prized by trophy hunters, but in Botswana hunting is banned, and has been since 2014. I share this image in celebration of Big Cat Week, and with thanks to my friends and colleagues Dereck and Beverly Joubert for causing an uproar about the plight of lions. @natgeotravel @thephotosociety @natgeocreative @dereckjoubert @beverlyjoubert #Lion #BigCatWeek #CauseAnUproar #Botswana
How fitting that the eve of my birthday is also #WorldLionDay! #Repost @natgeo with @repostapp#Repost @natgeo with @repostapp ・・・ Image by @beverlyjoubert The unmistakeable silhouette of a lion against a glowing dawn in the Okavango. Today is #WorldLionDay, a day to celebrate these phenomenal cats and let people know the plight that they are in. @dereckjoubert and I have been working with them for the past 35 years. We've seen their glories and their losses. We've also seen their numbers decline rapidly. We've lost 90% of lions in the last 75 years. Today only about 20 000 remain across Africa. Through the Big Cats Initiative we are funding big cat conservation projects around the world and have seen some great ideas and advances in saving these iconic animals. There is still a very long way to go but we will keep on going because we cannot lose the great roar of a lion reverberating across the African savannah. We would lose so much of our soul. #worldlionday2016 #causeanuproar Image by @beverlyjoubert The unmistakeable silhouette of a lion against a glowing dawn in the Okavango. EYE TO EYE WITH A KING. You gotta love the love light performance in Canon. This image was shot at ISO 12,800. #WildKenya #CauseAnUproar #ThisIsMyTrophy Read more about the “Kings Of Mara” here: http://www.clementwild.com/2015/08/07/the-kings-of-mara/ Don't forget to book Photographic Safaris here: http://www.clementwild.com/2016/03/18/photographic-safaris/
Its one year since Cecil the Lion was killed. The Lion that caused a global #uproar that reached millions. However its sad that trophy hunting still goes on in some countries. It pains me because i know what odds a Lion goes through to become King for a human to come and end all that glory for no reason at all. To the rest of the Kings left in the wild like King Notch II photographed above, i salute you! Read some more about how Lions conquer the throne on my journal “Kings Of Mara” link on my bio. #CauseAnUproar #ThisIsMyTrophy #WildKenya
