003. Pricey apologies (MONEY!)

A hot girl ghosting you wasn’t going to ruin your day.

Losing in Rocket League against Sakura however was going to ruin your day and your entire existence.

It was a friendly match. She swore it on her dignity – thinking about it now, you should've seen it coming. Sakura has no dignity left.

And so with more than four wins in her favour the chat was begging you to stop playing against her and accept defeat.

Until Kim Minji showed up.

You and Sakura were playing your 6th match. 

She had five wins until now, you on the other hand had one.

Focusing on scoring another goal you didn’t pay attention to your fans who were freaking the fuck out – From the corner of your eyes you saw people spamming Minji’s name.

She watched your streams?

Unless your followers were playing a trick on you.

You hoped for that because having her see you fail so hard in a game… utterly embarrassing.

‘Get it together Y/n.’ 

You mentally slapped yourself when Sakura scored a goal, her first of the current match; you jumped on your seat at her loud celebration – “Dude, you scared me. Never do that again.”

Your voice was half joking half serious but she just laughed it off and said something about kicking your ass. Classic. You didn’t listen to her next words, too busy eyeing the chat, reading comments. 

People were laughing, making fun of you for getting scared and then there was Minji asking for your favorite kind of gummy bears.

This girl.

She knew you read her comment because your eyes rolled in fake annoyance and you muttered about sour gummy bears – “What was that, Y/n?” Sakura asked, scaring you for a second time that day.

“Nothing, I was reading the comments.”

“About gummy bears?”

“No, about your mom.”

She faked a laugh at that.

“Still mad about Chaewon betraying you or about Minji ghosting you?”

Part of you wanted to change the topic and ignore what your friend just said, but you knew that whatever you did would've put you in the spotlight anyway. Saki wasn’t one to let this stuff go easily, especially during a stream.

The other part of you felt petty for no apparent reason. Yes, Minji ghosted you after asking you out but that date wasn’t that important.

You didn’t care. 

At all.

“None of that…” You began, thinking about what to say next, your eyes scanning the chat for help. 

Then again, amongst the swarm of comments, you saw Minji’s – “So you’re ignoring me back?” with some crying emojis.

What a motherfucker.

You weren’t going to give in.

“As if I didn’t know Chae was weak for Jen and I’m not upset about the ghosting, just the gummy be–”

The sound of a donation interrupted what you were saying, the familiar ‘ping’ followed by the robotic voiceover.

You stopped playing, the car froze mid air and fell into the grass, upside down. Fifteen bucks for a win sounded like a good deal but you wanted to push it, for fun, views maybe.

“Only fifteen? Make it one hundred." 

The car began to move again, your eyes scanned the virtual court in search of the ball and Sakura. It didn’t take you long to find both, she scored another goal and the whole arena exploded in confetti.

You still had a chance to win the match. 

The cars resetted again, yours in front of Sakura’s, both in the middle of the court. The second the ball hit the ground another donation appeared on your screen.

mjz_04 - “Here’s for your first win.”

And that’s how you understood she wasn’t joking. Minji was serious about the money, about your forgiveness and maybe about the date.

‘Dramatic much.’ You thought, smirking as you scored another point, winning the game. Sakura let out a curse in japanese while you celebrated.

Meanwhile, your admirer had donated again, keeping her promise.

She did after every win you got. 

The chat was full of comments about the sudden friendship, you glanced at it from time to time just to see Minji cheering you on.

At the end of the stream you had won 5 times and so did your opponent – It pissed her off how you became ten times stronger when money was involved. 

Instead of staying a few minutes more to chat with your followers, you stopped the live with a rather quick goodbye to check your phone, which was buzzing non stop ever since the donations started.
