I love when queer people can just be casual about their partners. I just got a new job, and I overheard my boss talking with one of her superiors and she just casually mentioned her wife, no hesitation or fear, the same way a straight person would be able to bring up their spouse, and it both surprised me and made me really happy. I ended up chickening out of telling her happy pride (both because she scares me a little bit and because it felt like making a big deal out of something that wasn’t), but she mentioned her again the next day in an equally casual manner (”my wife loses stuff all the time because she puts it in a ‘safe place’ and then forgets where that is”). And I was just standing off to the side trying desperately not to grin, and no one else batted an eye! And that’s how it should be!! It shouldn’t have to be a big deal or something to be cautious about, it should just be life! and it was just so cool to see, and very much a timely thing given the month. I have no doubt that she talks about her wife just as much every other month, but it’s pride nonetheless and it’s the first time I’ve heard it. Someday it’ll truly be normal to hear a man talk about meeting his husband or a woman talk about her plan to propose to her girlfriend and no one will bat an eye, and I can’t wait for that day
