On a scale from Howl to Dracula, how do you handle a moving castle?
you mightve guessed this from my stuff but my fav trope ever is "for reasons I dont understand, you all see me as a monster so I am giving up conforming and instead will literally make myself a monster (ie werewolf, vampire, dragon, etc) and you will still hate me, perhaps even more than you did before, but I am a monster and I love being a monster so I am more free than you will ever be."
Any interpretations people have of monsters in fiction are valid, such as using them as metaphors for social issues or seeing them as a literal type of disease like cancer, but for me personally I try not to portray them as inherently evil because I grew up as an autistic child heavily relating to monsters, nonhuman, and otherwise 'othered' characters in media. I've never vibed with the whole "this character is inherently evil because they are a monster, something that they were born with or is inherent in their DNA and is not their fault."
I like to picture monster characters as having the capacity for good or evil, like humans. Someone may turn themself into a monster for bad reasons - to abuse or gain power over others - or for good reasons, like self defense or to no longer have to live in fear esp. if they are part of a marginalized group. additionally, someone may turn another into a monster out of greed or punishment/hatred towards that person or out of love; wanting to spend eternity with someone or saving them when they are dying prematurely. Wolfe would be considered a "good" vampire bc he and alucard only share blood with each other, but he does not see vampirism as a curse quite in the way many of the other vampires would because being a queer, disabled fem-presenting person in the time period, he is not ever really safe and having the powers of a monster allows him to feel secure.
