No idea why EW decided to post this interview with Neil Gaiman and Tom Sturridge again, but I’m all on board for reminding everyone just how awesome Tom is in the role of Morpheus.
By now I have seen a lot of his other work, and though he was great in shows like Sweetbitter and excellent in Remainder and Mary Shelley, he truly shines in The Sandman. No doubt about it.
Still not sure why he hasn’t received the accolades he deserves but I guess it has something to do with the anthology structure of the show (and the source material), as a result of which Tom has gotten less screen time than other lead characters in similar shows. Another factor I think is the unique combination of fantasy/horror/drama/humour which is the essence of The Sandman, and which defies easy categorisation when it comes to awards and such.
Either way, I wish Tom would get more recognition for what he has accomplished here. He has managed to disappear into the role and become it. This is not an easy fit. Nor is it an easy role.
