the sun was still sleeping when they finally met up at the usual meet-up spot she preferred, some boarded-up public library, now full of nothing but barren and dust-covered shelves and black mold that loomed over their heads and threatened their health — though mold was the least of their concerns these days. ‘ good morning. ’ she greeted him as she leaned against a rotting pillar. ‘ thanks for meeting me. i know it’s early. ’ but a normal sleep schedule didn’t exist for most people unless of course, you were a fedra officer with a nice warm bed and a full belly. ‘ i’ve been talking to someone from a firefly outpost in atlantia — and before you say anything just hear me out, okay ? ’ she steps forward, away from the pillar, and her boots splash a little in the foggy standing water at their feet. ‘ apparently, they got a bunch of ammo they want someone to take to their other outpost in d.c. and they’re willing to pay for someone like you to do it for them because i guess their usual people got — well you know — they’re no longer with us. ’ she stops to take a breath, brown eyes squinting just slightly as she tried to read his expression. he was always the hardest to gauge — the most intimidating too, but she wouldn’t dare admit that out loud. normally she gave him info on jobs, he’d get the job done, give her whatever her cut was, and then they’d go on their merry way. most of the time, she mostly dealt with tess. ‘ it’s a little risky, but the payout sounds good. ration cards, a couple of guns, medicine — and they’ll even let us keep some of the ammo. ’ her voice softens and she looks away from him, her usually confident and personable demeanor falls slightly. ‘ there’s something else — i have to go with you. ’ / @carrythefire
dropping in for an ellie hug.
It was unprompted but there was no hesitancy in how she wrapped her arms around him, her face nestling into the juncture of his shoulder and collarbone. Ellie inhaled and breathed him in while her eyes fluttered shut. He smelled of new wood—just like his workshop—and there was something else mingled in as well. A natural musk she recognized as unique to him. Strong and sturdy within her arms, Joel was the cornerstone of what made her feel safe. It was exceedingly difficult to keep her defenses up around him and in that moment she felt like she could dissolve into tears from the sheer amount of solace she felt within this embrace. Through much of her childhood she'd lacked any sort of physicality in what relationships she established so it had a profound emotional effect whenever she was actually shown tenderness.
Maybe today, Ellie just really needed a hug.
@carrythefire , continued.
quick to temper. he's especially been that way since woodbury; whole world came crumbling down because of some asshole with an eye patch. parents, dead. brother, gunned down. now he's stuck in country oceans away from home, his only family gone. utterly alone and some redhead with a temper as bad as him really struck a nerve earlier on. maybe . . . maybe when they weren't all starving or trekking along all day in this insufferable heat, people are tolerable. hell, he was starting to feel a bit at home over at the prison. sudden repeated change and so much loss . . . finally caught up with cole.
jaw clenches as rick speaks to his open-ended threat. fingers stopped plucking at the grass beneath his legs and criston even sat up, adjusting his position with his body leaning forward; elbows to his knees as the flames crackling between them cast a shadow over his features. ❝ some might say you have quite the temper yourself, grimes. -- who the hell are you to stand on the moral high ground? calling all the shots? all this talk about working with your neighbor . . . what about that prick? his snide comments haven't exactly been so neighborly. ❞
“what are you so afraid of, rick?” the siren and her song, the black widow and her prey - moth, meet flame. she is everything and she is nothing all at once: eliza kardel has faded as much as all the ink of a past life, scattered across her skin and baked in the hope county sun. she regards him with a specific poise, a particular threat of interest; there’s something more to him than wanton violence, and lord knows he’s lost enough to make him malleable: he’s practically perfect in every way.
as much as her muscles push her forward to preen, faith keeps her hands to herself - mostly. sinewy, lengthy digits fold inward on themselves as she steps forward, an eerily ever-present smile on her features greeting him before she continues, “am i really all that scary?”

LORE DROP
We've dropped some new lore... our Member Groups!
After the Blackout (see more about that in our Timeline lore drop, coming soon 👀) things were bad. But, slowly, they got slightly better. People banded together and started to protect and care for one another again. Some settlements formed throughout the remains of Chicago...
THE GARDEN
FORT ARMOUR
WRIGLEY POST
WASTELANDERS
Wastelanders
Wastelanders are those in the greater Chicago area who remain “unsettled”. They roam the unclaimed land in between the settlements, surviving however they can. There are no shared values or traits among the Wastelanders. Some travel alone, others in small groups of 3-5. Some want nothing to do with the settlements, while others are desperate to be taken in. It is unknown exactly how many Wastelanders exist, but the numbers continue to plummet in the wake of harsh living conditions.
Wrigley Post
TLDR: A smaller settlement with a strong leaning towards Democracy, Wrigley Post is located at the heart of downtown Chicago. They are focused on using a radio to communicate with others, and finding other methods of convincing Wastelanders and settlements to trade their resources.
Sawyer swore up and down he’d never join one of the settlements. He’d seen the lush greens peaking over the gates of The Garden, starving Wastelanders turned away at its laughably ornate gates. And he’d seen the lifeless bodies bleeding out in the dirt, littering the way to the impenetrable Fort Armour. Mankind’s corruption and greed lived on, even as the world burned around them – and he wanted no part of it.
Instead, he braved the harsh elements in the Wastelands, his young daughter by his side. Along their travels they met other Wastelanders, some of whom they learned to trust, albeit at a distance. It could be lonely, but it was enough to get by.
That was, until the Sickness caught up to them. He tried to protect them, but by the start of December 2030 his daughter was too weak to travel by foot, the way they’d always done. She faded fast, and Sawyer was desperate to save her – desperate to get his hands on the medicine the settlements were hoarding.
Sawyer and his allies from the Wastelands banded together in the heart of Chicago. Here they tended to their sick while attempting to safely contact the other settlements. Their home base was soon named Wrigley Post -- a humble settlement where residents would do their best to look after one another, not unlike a pre-apocalypse neighborhood.
It took some time, but by September 2031, Sawyer managed to get an old radio they found on their travels to work. Unfortunately, no one answered their pleas.
By 2035 Wrigley Post has grown to 70 residents. Sawyer is often begrudgingly thrust into a leadership position within the settlement, however it operates as a democracy where decisions are made as a group. With some residents still experiencing residual complications of the Sickness (Sawyer’s daughter included), the settlement is faced with the task of convincing Wastelanders and Settlements to openly trade their precious resources.
WRIGLEY POST'S CORE VALUES:
Democracy: Although some residents are viewed as leaders, all major decisions are made by group vote. Pro-Trade: Wrigley Post wants to communicate with other settlements and Wastelanders alike, in an attempt to build a safe method of trading between people.
