probably not that hot of a take but we’ve seen posts that are like ‘you’re allowed to use fandom as a safe place, and you’re allowed to avoid the more sensitive topics because fandom is supposed to be fun!’ and while i can see where those posts are coming from i don’t really think that’s the way to think about it.
fandom can only be a safe place if the things making it unsafe are dealt with and pushed out, like the racism. and the misogyny. and the ableism. and the transphobia. and the misogyny. and the transphobia. and for the love of all that’s good the racism and ableism.
basically safe havens can’t be called safe havens if all the unsafe and awful stuff is happening in them.
