Carol/Steve + aaaaaaaaaaaaany of those holiday trope prompts. I just really really really need some Dangers fluff.
(Accidental mistletoe feelings? Yes please!)
So, there’s always a black-tie, formal Avengers Christmas party, with the Mayor and other various important people from NYC and Washington a couple weeks before the actual holiday. Security is airtight, and everyone has to be on their absolute best behavior, and most of the Avengers hate it with a passion.
The “real” Avengers party takes place the week before Christmas, at the Tower, and no one gets in besides Avengers and their plus-ones. (Which, let’s be honest, basically everyone has been an Avenger at one point, so it’s not like it’s a small gathering.) It’s really casual, with an appetizer bar instead of a sit-down dinner, and an open bar with all sorts of liquor, both terrestrial and alien.
Which is why Steve is actually kind of tipsy when Carol literally runs into him near the food—Thor brought some Asgardian mead that is a challenge for the super-soldier serum. Carol is dead sober—both she and Tony have been sticking to the program and checking with each other every hour or so—so her reflexes are sharp and she easily catches him. Steve chuckles as he straightens up, cheeks pink. “Sorry, Carol. Last time I was drunk, I had a lot less self to move around.” They chat for a bit, eating some little pastry thing that tastes like apple pie, until suddenly Steve looks up. “Mistletoe,” he says, voice steady.
Carol arches a challenging eyebrow. “Don’t even think about it, Rogers.”
But Steve doesn’t listen and ducks the few inches between their heights and presses a soft kiss to her mouth. It’s perfectly chaste, his lips warm and dry against hers with no hint of tongue. But she doesn’t pull away, and neither does he, letting the contact linger long past simply satisfying tradition.
He pulls away, and Carol blinks her eyes open, not really sure when she closed them. Steve’s face is still so close, close enough to feel the heat of his breath. Carol swallows, but doesn’t drop her gaze. “If that’s what you call a kiss,” she finally says, voice gone breathy, “no wonder you’re single.”
Carol absolutely does not shriek when Steve grabs her around the waist and kisses her again, no matter what Jess claims the next day, counting the cash she won in the “when are the Captains gonna bone pool.”
