Things pass by so differently here, so effortlessly? No, that’s the wrong word, but I float through life with a busyness and ease that I have never before seemed able to cultivate elsewhere. So many interesting people I scarcely have time to interact with them all- and me, an introvert, so I don’t always have the energy. But still, having to turn away invitations to go out and experience this place. So many friend crushes, but especially Hannah. I love how similar we are! Ventured to Durham for a look at the amazing Asian Marketplace and the Scrap Exchange where I picked up supplies and a recipe tin and some ceramic pottery. We looked through the giant bin of other people’s photographs while musing about our own lives and the lives they must have led.
So glad I’ve found a camaraderie, peculiar in familiar ways. It makes me consider trying new things! Finally starting that food blog or web design or a calligraphy class or brushing up on my Chinese or or sending all my written correspondence on paper I’ve made myself. Inspiration abounds.
Of course, everything is not perfect. K is in D.C. for my birth week. So proud of how he is excelling at everything. He seems happier, too. Expecting the day will pass with little fanfare, though the entire McCraney clan arrives on our doorstep shortly after. That should be fanfare in and of itself. Stressed about money. Debt is accumulating and there are so many things I want to acquire (though I hate feeling the need), but as I grow older I seem to desire less of greater quality. I hate having to get replacements each year.
Classes are lot of work and quickly picking up steam. Access and Outreach keeps getting more and more tense as people drop the course from their schedules. Starting the personal archive for one of the first black hockey players with my Community Archives Project. Work with NCHN is fascinating, but scared of the freedom they give me and the expectation that I can handle tasks from metadata to marketing. Forcing me to brush up on a lot of skills. Hoping they appreciate my hand-drawn logo designs when they return from their conference next week.
Missing those left behind. Wondering what will become of old relationships when new ones step in.
