This is something that I have been asking for the longest time and now it is actually happening. I always asked the question “Why doesn’t Guyana have a carnival yet?” Yes we have Mashramani, but I wanted, costumes, jouvert, fete after fete, the whole nine. Well my wishes came true and it is here. Last night, December 2, 2017, Guyana Carnival: Genesis launched their mas costumes for the upcoming fete in May 2018. Guyana Carnival starts the 18th and ends on the 27th with fetes, jouvert and others that will be posted soon. What is listed on the website are the mas costumes, hotel and other activities to participate in. Now Guyana is not a big country with a lot of tourism, but with this carnival arriving it can be great for the country. Although Guyana has of course put on amazing carnival such as Mashramani in February, Guyana can add Carnival under their belt.
Now onto the costumes: There are seven costumes that were launched: El Darado, Stabroek, Roraima, Kaieteur, Amazon, Dahlia, and Periwinkle, which will be listed below with pictures. Designers including: Natalie Fonrose,David Dewer, Shawn Dhanraj, Sandra Hordatt,Randy Madray, and Olympia Small. 👑🌴I absolutely love the names of the bands so you know it’s a real GT ting! I must say that all of these costumes were beautifully made with feathers and vibrant colors. My personal favorites are El Darado Stabroek, and Roraima.😍😍😍Being that I was unable to attend the event since I live in another country, I was able to watch everything on Guyana Carnival’s Facebook Live. Not only that, but it is stated that if you are unable to pay for the costumes you are able to take out a loan that can be paid off within a year. So don’t worry while feting, worry after. 😉Let me know what your thoughts, what your favorite costumes are and I hope everyone jam up this carnival season no matter where you go!
