RippleClan: Moon 1, Part 1
Downstar snaps at Carnationkitâs annoying antics, then has a disagreement with Puddlespeckle.

The wind brushed against the old wood of the shipwreck. Downstarâs den whistled like birdsong when the wind snuck through where the long-ago fallen planks rested against one another. She watched the summer sunshine drift through the giant hole in the side of the ship. The wind and heat struggled to reach her in her den, though; the humans who once crashed the grand wooden ship against the rocky shores of the Clans left behind a giant wooden box. Its sturdy lid laid flat before Downstar, leaving a large cozy space for her to build her nest and rest.
But she couldnât rest much longer. She had gotten away with it when sunhigh arrived and most cats refused to do anything more than sit and sleep as rain pummeled the camp. But as the afternoon crept through RippleClan, it was time to get back to work.
Downstar trotted out of the shipwreck and onto the sandy floor of RippleClan camp. The sand ebbed and flowed like the ocean, forever humming just outside the camp. Rainwater pooled in the dips scattered around camp and made the stones shine. The stone oven on the rocks by the edge of camp was soaked; it would be a while before Downstar could start a fresh fire and prepare any meals for her Clanmates. Before the storm hit, Downstar left out a bucket near the warriorâs den to collect the fresh water. Scrubmask was already taking a drink from it, fur partially soaked from patrolling the borders. RippleClanâs borders. Even after over a moon in their new home, Downstar purred at her Clanâs name. This was it. This was the chance at something new, something kinder and brighter andâ
Water splashed Downstarâs front legs. The leader yelped and pulled back. Carnationkit jumped through a massive puddle in front of Downstar, giggling. Her white underside looked darker from the sheer weight of the water. Sand coated her paws and clung to her belly.
âCarnationkit!â Downstar snapped. âWhat did we say about puddle splashing when someone else is right there?â Downstar shook out her legs, but the cold rainwater chilled her skin.
âUmmâŚâ Carnationkit said. âDonât?â
âI need to start the oven fire, Carnation,â Downstar groaned. âI canât do that if my legs are too wet to hold the spindle. Go splash somewhere else, alright?â
âOh,â Carnationkit said softly as she dropped her head. âAlright. Sorry, Downstar.â Carnationkit slunk out of the puddle and through camp. Downstar took a deep breath. It was fine. Carnationkit didnât mean to splash her. She was doing well. She barely freaked out during the Midsummer Star Explosions earlier that moon. She would be a wonderful addition to RippleClan⌠if Downstar didnât get splashed again. Then she might lose it.
âDownstar?â Puddlespeckle peeked his head out of the elderâs den.Â
âComing!â Downstar called. She jumped over the puddle and trotted through camp. When she and Weedfoot led their small Clan to the shipwreck beyond the other four Clans, they settled on placing the elderâs den under one of the small paler ships surrounding the shipwreck. Its round shell stuck high in the air, leaving its domed interior as a perfect roof for future elders. And⌠Puddlespeckle.
âThere you are, we have a problem,â Puddlespeckle huffed. âThis den is far too wet to act as an elderâs den. Just look at my nest!â Puddlespeckleâs nest looked bigger as portions of the moss bulged with water weight. âI might as well have built my nest outside.â
âIâm sorry, Puddlespeckle,â Downstar sighed. âIâll check the roof and see if I can fix that leak.â
âNo, thatâs not what Iâm asking,â Puddlespeckle said. âI want a new den. I refuse to stay in this one. This den should be the apprenticeâs den. The elderâs den should be that cozy nook youâve sectioned off for apprentices.â Puddlespeckle left the den and nodded at the empty apprenticeâs den. The grass grew tall and thick between the stones in just the right way that Downstar could weave everything together and form a roof.
âPuddlespeckle, when winter comes,â Downstar explained, âweâll have to put some of the loose wood around the camp over the roof. The grass roof will wither when it gets too cold. The apprentices can fix that when the time comes, but I donât want to stress any elders by forcing them out of their den at the start and end of every cold season.â
âAt least then I could make sure the place is dry,â Puddlespeckle snapped. âWe have no apprentices, Downstar. Who will it bother?â Downstar fought to keep her fur from standing on end.
âOilkit will be apprenticed next moon,â Downstar growled. âI chose to put the apprenticeâs den there, so thatâs where it will be. If you donât like it, you can always leave.â
âHa,â Puddlespeckle scoffed, shaking sand from between his pads. âLike I would spend my aging years as some loner. Iâm going on a walk.â He muttered his last sentence as he stalked toward the camp exit, situated nicely between the elderâs den and the huge warriorâs den.Â
âNo wonder AshClan didnât want you,â Downstar grumbled as her fur prickled and her head matched the pounding waves.
(Downstar: 60, female, adventurous, valuable insight, very clever)
(Carnationkit: 3, female, sweet, splashes in puddles)
(Puddlespeckle: 127, male, strict, good hunter, good kitsitter)

((im putting these all into one post to avoid spamming followers uOu i'll start each separate assignment w/ the characters point of view/same place as before. except for cats on the same patrol like hop n rose)) ----- "What are we gonna do while you're gone?" Marigoldkit piped up curiously, circling Gorsefang's paws, while his smaller sibling Milkkit simply leaned against the marbled tabby's muscular legs. Thistlekit's ears perked from where she was held down by Quailfeather's paw, and Carnationkit twisted around to glance at his sister. "<i>I</i> know what we can do, Marigoldkit!" Thistlekit mewed loudly, chest puffing out with sneaky pride, before her countenance fell as her mother rasped her tongue over her head and muttered, "No you don't." Carnationkit snickered lightly at his sister, before he was nudged by Quailfeather's white spotted muzzle to follow Gorsefang. Stumbling for a moment, Carnationkit finally found his proper footing after being nudged upright by his larger sister. The almost identical twins bounded after their parent and brothers; Milkkit shot a fiery glare at Carnationkit and curled his cream tabby tail towards his side; he snapped a warning at his brother, "Stay off my tail this time!" Marigoldkit blinked at his brothers, opening his mouth to say something, before clamping it shut and padding forward. Carnationkit simply looked crestfallen, only to jump when Thistlekit muttered something in his ear. Quailfeather shot her kits a stern stare, warning them they better behave, and stopped when Gorsefang came to  a stop. "The <i>elder's</i> den?" Thistlekit wailed in protest from where she stood beneath Gorsefang's chest, squished between her brothers, "What are we going to do in the <i>elder's</i> den?" "Give me a hard time, apparently." Dawnfur answered, blind gaze glittering with amusement and tone light, though Gorsefang nudged her daughter with a scolding look in her blue eyes. Carnationkit perked up, bounding forward to meet Dawnfur, and he clambered onto her paws to reach up; in response, Dawnfur lowered her own head and touched her muzzle to the young kitten's. "Hi, gram-mama!" Carnationkit cooed excitedly, tail flicking back and forth eagerly. Hopwhisker and Roseface stood beside Dawnfur, who was settled down on her stomach just outside the elder's den. The Scottish Fold tabby lowered her head to bump it against Dawnfur's, "I gotta go now, okay, ma? We'll all share late prey meal together when I get back." Dawnfur nodded towards her daughter, bidding her a farewell, before warning Roseface to stay safe out there; the pale ginger tom nodded to the elder, "Can do, Dawnfur. See ya later." The two warriors padded towards the entrance, where their apprentices were waiting, and soon disappeared. And by the entrance sat Emberfleck and Desertwalker, both ready to go. Gorsefang pricked her ears up and nodded to her mate, "We better head off now if we don't wanna be late to our patrol." Quailfeather nodded in agreement, padding forward and brushing against her larger mate, before touching her nose to Dawnfur's ear, "You've got them, right, Dawnfur? If it's too much of a burden, I can always-" "No, no," Dawnfur cut in swiftly, "No, dear, it's fine. I've missed hanging around with the kits, actually. You two go on your patrol, and stay safe, too!" Gorsefang meowed his thanks to Dawnfur, before swiftly turning and padding after Quailfeather; the duo joined Emberfleck and Desertwalker, pausing to let Hopwhisker and Roseface leave the camp with their apprentices. Once they left, Emberfleck got to his paws and with a curt nod, the orange flecked tom lead the warriors out of camp. It was rather uneventful. Emberfleck kept up a rushed pace that poor, short Desertwalker had to practically run to catch up with, and Gorsefang hung back to pad beside Quailfeather, simply enjoying her company. For a moment, the tabby wondered why Emberfleck seemed like he was in such a hurry, but the FallClan warrior didn't speak up or question it. By the time they reached the PineClan border, Emberfleck had the patrol disperse and check around. Quailfeather and Gorsefang, of course, padded off together. "How high do you think I can climb up there?" "Hm?" Gorsefang pricked her ears and lifted her head from the patch of grass she was skeptically sniffing, glancing towards her pale tabby mate. Quailfeather nodded her head up to the branches of a pine tree. "I bet I can go really high." "I bet you can fall out of said tree and hurt yourself." Gorsefang chirped playfully, flicking his tail against the feline's flank. Quailfeather shot him a challenging glare, before puffing out a determined puff of air from her pink nose, "Well, watch me!" Gorsefang watched in amusement as her mate hooked her claws into the bark of the tree and hauled herself up; the lilac tabby molly scaled the tree, and Gorsefang moved forward to the roots to look up at her. "See, Gorsefang?" Quailfeather called as she reached for a branch, "I could do it!" There was shuffling noise, and the needles rustled until a certain tabby FallClan molly fell from the branch and landed on the soft ground with a dull thud. Panic tightened in Gorsefang's chest and the large warrior hauled herself forward, calling out Quailfeather's name in concern. He came to a stop beside Quailfeather, who simply lifted her head and groaned, "Ouch." "Are you okay?" "Yeah, yeah, m'fine." Quailfeather chuckled lightly, until wincing as Gorsefang shifted his shoulder beneath Quailfeather's figure, "Hop on, I'll carry you back." As Gorsefang approached Emberfleck and Desertwalker, who had met up again at the border, the two warriors blinked up in shock at the duo. Emberfleck pushed his way forward, "What <i>happened</i>?" "I fell out of a tree." Quailfeather muttered halfheartedly, earning a little bit of a snicker from Desertwalker, who chirped, "What were you even doing in a tree?" "You know what," Emberfleck interjected, "we need to just get back to camp anyways. Plus," He paused again, thrusting his ginger muzzle up in the direction of the sky over PineClan, "Looks like a storm is coming." "It's been storming a lot lately, hasn't it?" Desertwalker mewed, eyeing the sky as well. Gorsefang simply grunted in agreement. *** "I gotta go now, okay, ma? We'll all share late prey meal together when I get back."  Dawnfur nodded to Hopwhisker, bumping her head against her daughter, and the burly molly soon padded off; she heard Roseface and her mother exchange a few words, before Roseface's joined Hopwhisker's side.  Frecklepaw and Fogpaw sat eagerly by the camp entrance, ears perked and eyes bright. Hopwhisker nodded to Fogpaw, who got to his paws and padded to her side. Roseface slunk towards Frecklepaw, smiling warmly at the tom, and tilting his head to the side for Frecklepaw to get up and follow along. As the small group was about to head out, there was a rush of paw steps towards them and the warriors of the group lifted their heads up. Appleflower had broken free from his patrol, earning a frustrated look from Morningdawn, and came to a stumbling halt before Roseface. The heavy set tortoiseshell touched his nose to Roseface's tenderly, murmuring something into the warrior's ear, before taking a step back. Roseface rolled his eyes and nodded, before flicking his ear, "Yeah, yeah, got it. Now, go on and get back to your patrol before you hold them all up. Or before Morningdawn snaps at you." Appleflower snickered lightly, reaching up and batting at his friend's ears, scolding lightly, "Be nice." The tom turned and padded back to his patrol, and that patrol left, Hopwhisker and Roseface lead their respective apprentices out of camp.
