National Penuche Fudge Day- July 22
Penuche Fudge is technically not even a fudge, yet it is categorized in the fudge family because it is prepared in a similar manner. The 'fudge' is created by combining brown sugar, butter and milk, with no other flavoring added except for vanilla extract.
The cooking process caramelizes the brown sugar, giving it the distinct caramel coloring and flavor. This type of treat is most common in New England, unlucky for us since we just left there not too long ago, and some places in the Southern US. I shouldn't say we were unlucky, because we were able to find a fudge shop that had it.
We once again had to take the trolley downtown to Sea Port Village. This time, at least, we knew where we were going and knew we wouldn't be able to walk there. It feels good to kind of know where things are, and I am sure the longer we are here the easier it will become.
We enjoyed our two varieties of Penuche, Kelsey had regular Penuche whereas I went with Penuche with Walnuts. It was so tasty, sweet and hurt my stomach slightly. But so worth it.
