You may know that David Stewart, Balvenie Malt Master, was recently honored by the Queen for his 54 years of service in the Scotch whisky industry with the MBE Medal. Mr. Stewart is responsible for developing cask finishes for #TheBalvenie in the 1980s – a new process at the time. His experimentation subsequently led to the release of The #Balvenie #CaribbeanCask 14 Year Old #SingleMalt #Scotch #Whisky. So what better scotch with which to #RaiseADram… Cheers. ABV: 43% Color: Butterscotch Nose: Toffee, orange bitters, coffee ice cream, ripe banana, vanilla Palate: Medium body. Creamy, but not quite fruity. Spice, oak. Finish: Warm and bittersweet. Bonus fact: Steven James of the Rum Diaries Blog found that they do not use ex-rum casks, rather: “They utilise whisky barrels that are seasoned with rum by Balvenie themselves. These barrels are ex-bourbon, American oak barrels that would usually be used to mature whisky. David Stewart has a ‘bespoke’ Rum blended just for him which he uses to season the barrels for a period of up to 3 years." ･･･ #thescotchenthusiast 014
