regarding indigenous ancestry and indigeneity, that is for each indigenous people to determine themselves.
wrt us taino, indigenous ancestry does necessitate indigeniety as, unlike mainland continental peoples, it is our ancestral connection to our islands which determines our peoplehood and not our national collective identities. There simply isn’t yet any Taíno Nation Authority. and i don’t think there should be. i agree with sovereign hawaiian perspectives on federal recognition wrt what we as taino ought to aim for in dealing with US imperialism.
it’s, as i said, different for taino, for us indigenous peoples of the caribbean islands, and we have a right to be different and our own.
