Caring is moving
At NICA, we have supported Centaur for the last year with our partners at the Design Age Institute. We believe that Centaur is one of the most interesting ongoing evolutions of the indoor wheelchair concept, with several unique features. On top of many others:
The ability to lift the person up or down to deal with different situations (talking to each other eyes to eyes, accessing under a table to eat with everyone else and not from a meter away, lifting up to look in a mirror)
The horizontal wheelbase allows it to transit where usual wheelchairs do not pass
A design that seeks to demystify the stigma of the wheelchair
Centaur put "care" where it is mostly needed: caring about us in the interactions with others, caring about our relationship with the context we are in, and helping us care about ourselves or the things we care about. If anyone is arguing about where's the "internet" of this thing, stay tuned. ;-)
