Beloved Mexican comedian Capulina
Capulina vs the Monsters (1973)
If you know me you know I love old classic Mexican monster movies and the monsters luchadore extrordinaire El Santo would battle as well. I recently discovered a comedy hero of Mexico from the same area called Capulina. Capulina had almost as many movies as Santo around the same time and often would battle the same creatures. Capulina was a short chubby older mustache man who would be childishly scared one second and super hero adventerous the next. Basically he felt like when Captain Lou played Mario in the 90s super mario bros cartoon series. So basically replaced El Santo with Super Mario and relaced action with comedy. Like a shittier Bud Spencer from all the 70s and 80s Italian movies. One of the things I love of mexican films of that time is that 1970 felt like 1960 everywhere else. The girls with boufant hair dues and mini skirts, the cigarette smoking jazz bands and of course beatnik versions of classic Universal monsters. Capulina would meet mummies, vampires, aliens, brain scratchers and even had a vs Santo film once. Like a one man Abbot and Costello with a little cheeky Carry On humor and more choices of monsters.
So anyways I watched Capulina vs the monsters were a mad scientist hooks Capulina up to a fear machine. The machine takes Capulinas fear and turns it into energy somthe mad scientist can wakemupmthe mummy, Frankensteins monster, a vampire and a werewolf (a werewolf in a sherlock holmes coat oddly enough). Before all that Capulina goes trick or treating with some kids until he has to do a delivery to a haunted house and wamo guinea pig for the mad scientist. I watched this in Spanish with no subs or dubs but it was pretty easy to figure out. So I only basically got the plot. But enough of it. Viva la Monsters. However with people saying his name so much I have the Harlem shake in my head cause that always sounds like at the begining of it they say oh ho Capulina. Honestly Capulina would have made a great Wario. I hope I find a movie were he meets his evil double. There is so much dumb silly stuff out there if you just dont worry what language its in. I should learn better Spanish anyways.
Algo de humor con esta crisis!!
