Rose Cottage comission x2 (1/76 scale) I've started today on focussing on replicating the brickwork. I want to first thank all contributions of ideas for how to go about this. I love that interaction from our community on here and how we share freely with each other skills and experiences. I feel that's important for us to contribute further in that way on each others work. So I thank you for your involvement 🙏 The brickwork that I need to replicate is flat and smooth which means that it needs to have a clean finish. My first method is one that I usually use for brickwork. I use filler, PVA and a little water to form a paste which when dry I can scribe brickwork on to. Although this looks good on larger scales, the bricks I'm carving are 4mm X 2mm and some being 2mm X 2mm. This resulted in the filler cracking which wasn't the look I was after. I then resorted to the approach I'm happier with which is by scribing the brickwork into plasticard which when primed looks really smooth. I'm now going to paint on every brick to also ensure it replicates the white mortar lines showing through... (1/34 scale) Traditional British Corner shop - The start of the interior, I've gone for a wooden counter and this was achieved so far by using white plasticard to make the room and then I sprayed it with white primer before painting the wooden areas black and then some mahogany brown. Swipe to see my tin plate signs I've added to the shop front. I applied some gloss to these to give at least a little shine to them. I need to weather these up a little too to add to the overall effect. Those that have been following me from the very start may remember this diorama and I thought as we approach 3000 followers I would take a look back to this first piece so that anybody new to my work can see where I've come from and why it features in my logo 😁 Very similar to 'Rose Cottage' that I completed recently this diorama was made by myself for my Nan to take with her after she left to a new house. Back then I hadn't discovered plastic sheet as a material to work with and so everything you can see building wise is built from card and paper. To mention, the brickwork was printed on paper making it up on word, it does the job but I would sooner carve it myself these days if I can. The scale is 4mm to 1ft meaning that it was tiny anyway. I made the trees by hand using florist wire very similar to how I make trees now. The one thing I didn't do was prime anything so I remember that making life harder as I had white gaps in places that did show. It still lives with my Nan and is on display consistently which has always been pleasing to see when we used to pop round before lockdown. That was the perfect way to represent neatly laid tiles however I feel that sometimes it's worth laying them one by one to get an uneven flow. Hawkers Hut - Commission (1/26 scale) Completed: This piece has been possibly the most significant of all that I have created to date. This isn't just any Time Capsule commission but a Time Capsule that needed to literally transport a place to a person so they can visit Hawkers Hut as many times as they wish. If you have followed this commission from its beginnings a month a go then you will understand that this was made for and in thought of a person who is battling cancer. This will serve as a way to evoke memories, feelings, smells and experiences that meant this place was so important to this special person. Now it is completed it will be travelling off to do its job and I dearly hope to provide comfort in a time of need. Hawkers Hut - Commission (1/26 scale) I couldn't help myself but start on this commission as I literally knew how I wanted to go about it. I found a facing image of the front of the hut which I scaled to size on the laptop. I then printed it out onto some sticky label paper and cut out each piece of wood from the image and applied these to plasticard of varying thicknesses.
