Starting something a little bit different
Fellow artists on bottle caps and beads
Have produced: Ugly Yarn!
Ok, it’s not THAT bad, it’s just VERY textury. I have a friend who likes her fiber arts Texture who it’s going to.
This was mostly an experiment. It’s recycled wool and silk waste. I had some tapestry yarn I wasn’t going to use for anything else, and I box of various kinds of silk. So I carded up the yarn into fluff, and then added silk waste fluff, and something called throwsters waste, which is a waste product from producing commercial silk fiber.
The silk fluff and wool fluff were very short staple, but the throwsters waste was VERY long staple. So the mix ended up being like spinning dryer lint mixed with long hair. Not a great experience.
The finished yarn does FEEL nice at least. It’s mostly wool with silk, so it feels soft-fuzzy, like animal fur ( which it mostly is)
This doily took me one week and I'm so glad it's finally done... I don't usually celebrate halloween but I love this holiday, its vibe is conforming for me.
What's important about this doily is that it's made of 100% recycled cotton yarn and to be honest I really enjoy crocheting with this type of material. It's a bit stiffer than normal cotton thread but still it's great for home decorations, like this one. And - most importantly - it's ecological. The amount of used textiles is enormous, so recycling is really a thing we should all think about.
