CaptainWinterHawk - first date all together
So, this ended up being more date preparation than actual date. Hope that’s okay? Thanks for the prompt!
Steve watched as Bucky tried for the third time to properly knot his tie. Bucky let out a frustrated huff as one of the metal plates on his hand snagged the soft, green fabric of the tie.
“Used t’be able to do this in my sleep,” Bucky growled as his eyes connected with Steve in the mirror.
“C’mere and I’ll do it for you,” Steve responded with a soft smile. Bucky was more nervous for this date than he was, a complete reversal from their days of double dates with whatever girls Bucky could find. But it was cute, seeing Bucky all flustered and unsure. For a second, he thought Bucky was going to be stubborn about it and not let him help, but then Bucky let out a sigh and walked over to him in defeat. As he grabbed hold of the two ends of the tie and started knotting them together, he said, “You know you don’t have to wear a tie. Clint won’t care.”
Bucky huffed again, not meeting Steve’s eyes. “I just… want it to be nice, you know?. I want…”
Steve leaned in and kissed Bucky’s cheek lightly. “You want it to work out.”
A blush spread across Bucky’s face and he stuffed his hands in his pockets. “Yeah, I really do.”
“Well, you’re all set,” Steve said as he smoothed down the now properly tied tie on Bucky’s chest. He dropped another kiss on Bucky’s cheek. “You look great, Buck. He’s gonna be speechless.”
Bucky grinned and grabbed Steve’s hand, pulling him out of the apartment to the elevator and grabbing the bouquet of irises on their way out. Once they were in the elevator, Steve began to feel some butterflies in his own stomach. He knew it was silly. They were already sleeping together, and Clint spent more time in their apartment than his own. But still, this was different. This was official. It scared the hell out of him.
Clint greeted them at his door with a bright, but shy smile. The idea that he was just as nervous as they were helped settle Steve’s nerves a little bit. He really believed that the three of them could do just about anything if they had each other, even start a relationship.
“You brought me flowers?” Clint said in surprise when Bucky held them out. “I’ve never gotten flowers before.”
“Call us old-fashioned,” Bucky said with a smirk. Steve rolled his eyes at the joke, but Clint laughed before taking the bouquet back into the apartment and setting them carefully on the counter.
“I don’t, uh, have a vase. I’ll have to get one from Nat later,” Clint explained as he shrugged on a light coat. “You both look great by the way.”
Bucky blushed and looked at his shoes so Steve said, “So do you.”
Clint was wearing nice, dark wash jeans and a deep purple button down. Steve looked him up and down appreciatively and was rewarded with a wink. Part of Steve wanted to skip the restaurant, order in, and then take both his boys to bed. But that defeated the point of this date, so he didn’t suggest it.
“Where are we going?” Clint asked as they left his apartment.
“Fancy pizza,” Steve corrected. This little gourmet pizza kitchen had opened up a few blocks away. He felt like it was an important distinction. They wanted something nicer than their usual, but still something Clint would like. This seemed like the perfect compromise.
Clint blinked and a grin slowly spread across his face. “Yeah, I’m keeping both of you.”
