as easy as it would be to choose monkey kombat for my least favorite puzzle, i’ve decided to choose one of the final puzzels from tales from monkey island. not because of the difficulty, but because of its repetitive nature and how it just pounds it home that guybrush is dying. imo it just doesnt really match the rest of the games funny haha feel. its a little too serious for its own good, trying to get some emotion from the audience. i will admit that the game definitely made me feel bad for guybrush, its just not what i wanted from the game, making it one of my least favorite puzzles. plus morgan felt really out of character near the end of the whole game so her contribution didnt feel genuine. im a sucker for monkey island 2, but the lechuck puzzle at the end of that game was done way better and more comically, despite being just as repetitive. guybrush was getting hurt, sure, but in a way you could laugh about it and not worry about his well being. you just assumed he would be fine like every time before. and plus, guybrush was also getting stabs back at lechuck throughout the puzzle (like the elevator beard scene) so it just made it all the better.
