hiiiiiiii
what are traits (physical, emotional, personality, etc) that adrian has that you think just GET seth? just totally wreck him or give him pause. and also vice versa if youre so inclined.
- @captain-sunshine-11 :)
ps i love adrian if you couldnt tell
absolute GOLDMINE of an ask cap i am sooooo excited for this one ok ok here we go
ill start with the little things and progress to the angst
when he's confused or doesn't understand something he cocks his head to the side the way dogs do and usually doesn't even realise he's doing it. -3615987 damage to seth gordon the first time he sees him do it (and every other time)
stargazer but at really inconvenient times. like "oh look the moon" whilst driving or hes walking (with seth) and just stops suddenly staring directly upwards and it's hit or miss on how easy it is to regain his attention. it's cute until seth realises adrian stopped walking 10 minutes ago and has to fucking go back for him
drums his hands on inanimate objects, usually rhythms he's trying to learn or perfect on the kit. at first it's annoying but like 3-4 years or so down the line seth starts getting pretty good at identifying the tracks so like they'll be stuck in traffic and adrian will start drumming on the steering wheel and seth listens for a couple minutes then says "save your generation" and adrian will nod and switch to a new rhythm for him to guess
he loves driving. he has his dad's car, a 1986 mercedes that he is only a little bit picky about taking care of (for example he ripped out the stereo and put in a cassette and cd player cause he wanted one). if/when it dies on him he will adamantly not replace it with an automatic because he doesn't like them. shifting gears is his favourite part of driving because he likes the control of it. seth doesn't have a car so adrian will give him a ride if they stayed too long at the library or whatever (i don't know where fox tower is relative to anything) but he likes watching adrian drive
any/every time seth sees him with his sisters. adrian could've had the worst fucking day of his life (has a few times), just completely shut down from everything and then he goes to pick the girls up from school and it's like he's a different person. he's had complete breakdowns in the parking lot of their school and then suggested they get ice cream on the way home. adrian is so desperate to make zarah and rayne's lives feel like they're still somewhere close to normal that it's like he reserves most of his energy to be there for them, to smile and hug them ask them about their days help them with homework. 99.9% of the time it's genuine, but on really bad days he's good at faking it. but if you've only ever known him alone, like seth has, watching that change for the first time is drastic.
when he finally finds out how adrian's dad died, i think that's kind of a turning point in how seth sees him you know. it's a big part in why adrian is the way he is, a lot of his avoidance and general issues with people and stuff go back to his mom's trial and sentencing, his dad's suicide and then his own court case fighting for custody of his sisters against his grandparents. now adrian is like. somewhat aware? that all of that had An effect on him but he's of the mentality like. i am trying to get an engineering degree i cant think about my Childhood Trauma. but me being me i'm gonna make it catch up to him anyway. so when he finally snaps and starts having to Deal With It there's kind of an oh moment there where seth sort of realises like. sure adrian is holding it together a little better than he is. but he's not actually holding onto a lot, he's not as clean cut as he makes himself look he's not as prepared or confident or secure as he seems and it doesn't take that much to break through that shell
away from his sisters he's usually relatively serious. concentrated, he's sarcastic at times but otherwise he's not like overly energetic or funny or whatever, he tries to focus on his work as much as possible because he knows his brain is actively working against him so he is kind of Always studying. but. BUT. if you can get him to relax a little then he can be coaxed into not taking the world or himself so seriously, you can get him to actually laugh if you catch him off guard at the right time, he'll drink a little bit if he knows he has a ride home and he's on a late shift tomorrow. it takes effort and planning but it is possible and once he knows that, seth takes achieving it as a challenge. (usually successful)
