I was born and raised in Osijek, Croatia, in the Jug 2 neighborhood. The most iconic and memorable thing I remember about this neighborhood is the "dvodomke," or two-story houses. Osijek is full of them, but they are especially prevalent in Jug 2. -"Jug 2 means South 2"

For the past couple of years, I've been documenting the "dvodomke" with my 35mm and 120 cameras. I took some of the photos in this presentation between 2021 and 2023. I plan to eventually document "dvodomke" in Jug 2 with my Pentax 6x7 camera and publish a photobook.

I'm fascinated by the "dvodomke" because they are a unique and important part of Osijek's architectural heritage. They were built in the 20th century, during a time of rapid economic growth and development in the city. The "dvodomke" was designed to be affordable and accessible to working-class families. They are typically two stories tall, with a small front porch and a backyard. You can usually find a parking garage in the streets like in the first photo. The houses are often decorated with colorful facades and elaborate wrought-iron fences.

The "dvodomke" are more than just architectural landmarks. They are also home to a close-knit community of working-class families and retirees. The neighborhood has a strong sense of identity, and the residents are proud of their "dvodomke." They often gather on front porches and in backyards to socialize and help each other out.
