Generally,  Langris  holds  very  firm  opinions  &  isn’t  exactly  prone  to  change.  However,  William  has  managed  to  slightly  change  his  mind  about  peasants  ( before,  he  didn’t  find  any  worth  in  their  lives  whatsoever,  so  he  didn’t  bother  protecting  them  if  it  proved  to  be  too  much  of  a  hassle  ---  as  shown  when  he  opted  to  sacrifice  the  hostages  in  Kiten;  now  though,  while  Langris  still  isn’t  completely  sold  on  the  idea,  he  has  slowly  started  to  see  William’s  point,  or  at  least  is  actively  attempting  to  ---  if  any  more  hostages  were  to  be  held  at  this  point  in  time,  he  would  try  his  hardest  to  save  them,  even  if  it  proved  to  be  a  hassle  and  a  half  ).

Finral’s  leave.  For  the  majority  of  his  childhood  until  then,  Langris  believed  that  Finral’s  presence  in  his  life  was  a  given,  no  matter  how  toxic  their  dynamic  would  get  or  how  terribly  their  parents  would  act  towards  him.  He  also  believed  that,  if  Finral  could  prove  himself  to  them  later  on,  their  parents  might  start  warming  up  to  him  as  well  &  allow  them  to  have  at  least  a  semblance  of  a  normal  brotherhood.

With  that  in  mind,  Langris  never  surmised  that  Finral  would  run  away  from  the  Vaude  household,  so  he  didn’t  think  much  of  it  when  he  didn’t  see  Finral  in  the  house  one  day.  “Maybe  he’s  goofing  around  in  the  city,  or  he's holled  himself  up  in  his  room”  were  his  instant  thoughts.  He  also  didn’t  pay  it  any  mind  when  Finral  didn’t  come  down  from  his  room  for  dinner nor breakfast  ---  their  parents  were  acting  as  usual,  so  nothing  prompted  Langris  to  believe  otherwise;  at  best,  he  thought  that  Finral  might’ve  received  yet  another  harsh  scolding  from  their  parents  &  was  crying  about  it  in  his  room,  and  at  worst,  he  thought  they  might’ve  forbid  him  from  having  dinner  that  night  &  breakfast  the  next  morning.

Langris  kept  repeating  his  daily  routine  for  another  day  or  two,  waking  up  -  studying  -  training  -  sleeping,  until  he  became  irritated  at  how  weak-willed  Finral  could  be  to  hide  himself  in  his  room  for  so  long  instead  of  face  Langris  and  their  parents  with  his  chin  up.  That  was  when  Langris  decided  to  use  his  free  time  to  knock  on  Finral’s  door  &  open  it  when  he  didn’t  receive  any  answer,  only  to  find  the  room  completely  empty,  as  if  it  hadn’t  been  used  in  quite  some  time.  Confused  and  slightly  alarmed,  Langris  quickly  asked  his  parents  about  it,  only  to  receive  a  very  nonchalant  “Finral  has  ran  away,  he  is  no  longer  a  part  of  our  family,  so  you  should  forget  about  him”.

2020 is almost done and over with!

Langris  turns  thus  to  the  Black  Bull,  yet  the  other’s  ogling  only  serves  to  further  irritate  (  ‘I  can  feel  a  headache  coming’  )  &  a  heavy  sigh  is  released  as  the  younger  supposes  he  could  offer  a  piece  of  advice  to  his  lovestruck  fool  of  a  sibling,  in  an  act  of  kinship  after  several  years  of  outright  hostility.   ❛     Women  are  attracted  to  power,  fame,  titles,  looks  and  confidence.  You  might  be  a  lost  cause  for  the  first  three  criteria,  but  as  my  brother,  at  least  your  looks  aren’t  too  shabby,  and  you  can  still  work  on  your  pathetic  excuse  of  assertiveness.     ❜ 

Attention  turns  entirely  to  Finral  moments  subsequently  &  the  1st  Class  Senior  Magic  Knight  starts  to  deliberately  pressure  the  other  with  his  gaze  in  order  to  gauge  his  reaction;  his  unfiltered  opinion  only  adding  salt  to  the  wound  he’s  certain  his  brother  possesses  (  &  which  the  heir  desires  to  be  at  least  partly  vanquished  in  their  foreseeable  future  ).   ❛     Frankly  speaking,  your  personality  is  weak,  you  cower  at  the  slightest  sign  of  confidence  and  you  go  along  with  what  everyone  asks  of  you  regardless  of  your  own  wishes.  All  of  those  traits  are  unpleasant  and  undesirable  for  anyone  who  doesn’t  wish  to  take  advantage  of  you.  If  anything,  even  those  who’d  want  to  take  advantage  of  your  poor  self - esteem  and  so - called  “kindness”  might  get  deflected  because  of  how  suspiciously  easy  it  is  to  twist  you  around  like  a  leaf  in  the  wind,  nii - san.     ❜

Saccharine  words  settle  in  the  Vice - Captain’s  heart  alongside  the  hefty  heap  of  their  predecessors,  benevolent  comments  &  compliments  never  a  scarcity  when  standing  by  his  Captain’s  side.  A  smile  blooms  at  the  thought,  tender  &  genuine,  and  Langris  momentarily  closes  his  eyes;  almost  laughing  in  response  (  much  too  aware  of  how  he  doesn’t  deserve  such  constant  thoughtfulness,  in  spite  of  the  evergrowing  array  of  achievements  he  offers  to  their  squad  on  a  silver  platter  ).   ❛     I  appreciate  the  sentiment,  truly,  but ...     ❜ 

A  shrug  follows  suit  and  the  curtains  on  his  eyes  lift,  light  turquoises  glancing  upwards  at  the  man  akin  to  the  sun.   ❛     Just  focus  on  your  own  happiness,  Captain.  If  you  do  that,  I’ll ...     ❜   An  intentional  bite  of  the  tongue  as  he  halts  mid - thought,  forcing  the  subject  to  encase  all  of  the  squad’s  members  instead  of  solely  himself  (  for  regardless  of  his  indifference  towards  their  colleagues,  the  youth  acknowledges  the  other’s  sincere  concern  for  each  of  them  &  the  place  every  member  holds  in  his  heart  ).   ❛     We’ll  be  happy  as  well,  I  can  assure  you  of  that.     ❜

Orbs  split  open  after  what  feels  like  an  eternity,  &  the  vice - captain  jumps  upwards  from  his  horizontal  position  on  the  mattress,  hues  staring  straight  ahead  while  the  abused  muscles  ache  in  revolt.

There’s  a  strange  feeling  bubbling  in  his  chest  and  he  momentarily  breathes  heavier  than  usual;  hands  forming  into  fists  &  mind  going  through  the  process  of  trying  to  remember  his  last  actions  before  being  knocked  unconscious. 

(   And  there  they  are,  now  surging  forth:  the  murderous  attack  towards  his  brother,  the  almost  fatal  swing  of  his  arm,  his  unsightly  speech,  the  cold  prison  chair,  the  horrified  expressions  of  his  parents,  the  reputation  gone  down  the  drain,  the  failure  of  stopping  himself  and  the  inevitable,  unending  darkness  he’d  been  isolated  to  for  far  too  long   )

A  cold  shiver  runs  down  Langris’  spine  as  he  attempts  to  take  in  the  memories  and  the  heavy  responsibility  glued  to  them,  before  a  slight  movement  at  his  side  brings  him  back  to  reality;  sending  the  noble’s  attention  away  from  terrible  thoughts  &  towards  it  instead.

Azure  eyes  thus  turn  to  the  left  where  his  Captain’s  figure  sits  on  a  nearby  chair  &  the  scene  feels  just  as  surreal  as  his  previous  experience,  a  blink  following  suit.  There’s  only  silence  between  the  two  for  an  instant  while  Langris  stares  unceremoniously  at  his  sole  friend,  yet  the  genius’  lips  eventually  part  and  he  inadvertently  calls  the  other’s  name  instead  of  his  title;  mind  much  too  preoccupied  with  his  presence  to  notice  the  misslip.   ❛     William ------  ?     ❜ 

Before  the  youth  has  the  chance  to  inquire  any  further  though,  a  hand  makes  contact  with  his  shoulder  and  warmth  spreads  through  his  body;  ears  not  failing  to  pick  up  on  the  reassuring  words  matching  the  blond’s  firm  &  tender  expression  ---  and  so  Langris  remains  slightly  gaping,  sky  blues  reflecting  the  other’s  visage  for  a  moment  more  while  the  words  settle  in.   ‘I’ve  got  you,  you’re  safe.’

It  is  then  that  exhaustion  &  brief  relief  start  to  finally  pump  through  his  veins  and  raw  vulnerability  makes  its  home  on  the  stronghold’s  features;  for  once  taking  more  than  was  offered  by  shifting  closer  and  leaning  his  forehead  down  on  the  other’s  closest  shoulder,  mind  repeating  the  sentences  as  the  tension  in  his  body  begins  to  vanish,  one  last  (  muffled  )  whisper  temporarily  ending  their  short - lived  conversation.   ❛     I  see ...  thanks.     ❜
