Campus Hack Friday
Hack #1: Thou shalt get free coffee.
So as you are about to learn young first year, coffee is quintessential to college student life. In the next year you will probably consume more caffeinated beverages than water.And, If you live anywhere in North America you're more than likely to have a Starbucks on campus; as they are slowly plotting world domination and who else is better to target than the sleep deprived university student. However what Starbucks fails to announce is that they actually have a rewards program (or maybe I am just behind on the news as I spend the majority of my socially inept life in libraries - which FYI have Starbucks in them). But, by the grossly high numbers of people I see paying with debit on campus I am assuming most of you don't know about this program or don't care. However it's pretty kick ass.
So how it works is you simply pick up a card from Starbucks, register it online and load money on it. Then, instead of using debit/visa to buy that morning mocha you use your adorable little card (available in a variety of both feminine and manly designs). By doing so you collect stars! (Just like how your grade school teachers gave you little start stickers on your papers) This not only saves you terminal fees, but it also gives you the ego boost of someone giving you a gold star. (B/c we are all 5 at heart).
Once you collect 30 stars (you have one year to do so) you become a gold star member, meaning not only does Starbucks send you a pretentious glittering gold card you can wave in your lab partners face, but it also means that after every 12th coffee/latte/tea etc. you get a free one of any size!!!!!!! By joining you also get access to coupons, deals etc.
It seems daunting to collect but if you are anything of a white, hipster, 20 some year old female, its a lot easier than you would think. Plus by 3rd year your going to learn that the only thing your family gives you for Christmas is Starbucks gift cards, which you can then register collect and earn points on someone else;s dime.
