CAL- “Listen, Penny I have never been with another woman…”

PENNY- “Just relax Cal, you said yourself, you two are probably going to divorce, just relax and enjoy it. I have found you so attractive since I first met you.”

CAL- “You are quite beautiful too…”

PENNY- Then let’s do this…”

Cal arrived at the hotel shortly after 6 pm and checked into his room and then headed down to the hotel bar for a quick drink before settling in for the night. The bar was your typical hotel bar, with a someone playing requests on the piano. Not too many patrons were at the bar.  He ordered his drink and sat at the end of the bar, looking into his glass of rum and coke like it was the only thing in the room.  He was thinking about what the future held for him.  Chances were he and his wife of almost 20 years were at the end of their marriage. He was at a job he hated and living with his parents at 41 with his two teenage children.  To say he was disillusioned was an understatement.  A woman about his age enters the bar. He doesn’t even see her. But she sees him...

PENNY- “Hey is this seat free?”

PENNY- “Still in the city, working for a online news media company.”

CAL- “Paying well?”

PENNY- “It pays the bills and this drink I just bought you.  So how is Malia?”

CAL- “Fine I suppose, she moved in with her parents. We are separated. Long story.”

PENNY- “So what are you drinking?”

Cal finally looks up and immediately recognizes the beautiful young woman standing next to him….

CAL- “Penny!!  So good to see you.  I had no idea you would be here.”

Penny and Cal had worked together for several years at the San Myshuno Times, both losing their jobs when the new owners took over.

Penny- “Yeah, I didn’t know I was going to be here either.  I need two rum and cokes, please (to the bartender)

CAL- “Oh, you don’t need to buy me a drink.”

PENNY- “You look like you need another” ( she sits down next to him) “So what have you been up to for the last nine months?”

RIVERS EDGE is moving over to this blog. In a few weeks these two stories will intersect into one and will be my new legacy.

PATIENCE- “He is telling you the truth, Milo. He has evidence, and your mother confirmed it. It’s been going on for over a year.”
