Updated Calotrope Lab Ref Sheet!

Now I can add an actual nice reference sheet to art fight 😋

She’s in a slowburn relationship w/Colress that starts out with them sharing a lab and her being annoyed by him until she realizes hes not asking questions to be annoying hes js interested in everything. She ends up reluctantly letting him volunteer to the base solutions in exchange for helping him with his research (and honestly js cause hes curious). Then they end up helping each other with their research because their scientific skills are in different fields :)

Dynamic is they like teaching each other stuff and letting each other into their lives. They’re both big over-workers and spend way too much time in the lab than they should, often skipping out on sleep.

Calotrope dresses a lot of wounds for him bc of her outdoorsy experience (and the fact she’s preforming the acid experiments. He explains anything she wants in as many ways as it takes for her to understand— often explaining abstract concepts through tangible objects or sketching them in the dirt or whatever’s nearby.

He helps with graphs and probabilities that she’s just not particularly great at and she teaches him how to read and understand more animal-like pokemon, like specifically a mischievous togedemaru he’s trying to get cooperation from.

Calotrope likes how animated and excited he gets about science—both the stuff he knows about and the stuff he doesn't—and how he's genuine and doesn't push boundaries when informed of them. She really likes that he genuinely wants to learn and that after a hypothesis is proven wrong, he’s just excited to know the “correct” answer and the method to get there. She likes that he does nice things for her without expectations that other people typically come with.

Colress finds her interesting initially because of how prickling she is with people but good she is with pokemon just intuitively. Eventually evolves into him being interested that the prickliness seems to just be defensive and that shes got a lot of odd behaviors that are difficult to predict but that are signs of her caring. He likes learning her different small tells and how she unintentionally reflects the pokemon she’s studying.

And they both like that each person studies the other and remembers details about them that they don’t even really notice about themselves. Calotrope makes extra coffee in the morning, Colress makes two servings of food, they organize stations for each other, and they give their observations which are usually pretty helpful because they see different perspectives in each other’s research. They like watching science documentaries together and talking through them the whole time and just kinda existing in the same space doing their own things together :)

Basically they’re just a comfort ship for me, I made this blog because I’ve got so much info on them im probably going to start posting comics 🤞

First Ref of Calotrope!

She’s a researcher native to Alola who’s spent her entire life studying Salandit and Salazzle after an unfortunate acid accident as a child.

She got the chemical burn scars as a child by accidentally scaring Salandit. She’s never blamed the pokemon, but she’s always felt guilty for pressuring it into believing she was a threat. Because she believes people have a responsibility to understand and take care of pokemon, decided to study salandit as much as possible so that her findings could be used to avoid future stress on “her” species.

She researches in a laboratory by herself because her prickly personality drives away most researchers stationed at her lab in a matter of months. She doesn’t really get along with people due to her self-contained nature, though she is well respected for her knowledge on Salandit. Her active project is development of base solutions to combat salandit venom/acid to avoid accidents from harming anyone else.

Her primary colony of study has two female salazzle inhibiting it which is unusual. One of the salazzles she’d bonded deeply with and is her partner.
