AURORA GREEN & CALEB MCKINNON → ‘CALORA’
And as the world comes to an end, I'll be here to hold your hand - Cause you're my king and I'm your lionheart.
Let’s just say this is a lil celebratory post b/c Megan (@queendecepticon) joined tumblr and without her my otp wouldn’t exist... and I wouldn’t be the piece of trash that I am for them, damn you Megan
hijacked.
Shouting, screaming, slamming doors and her fist hitting the wall. That was the only way Aurora could even describe her actions in the last hour. Sat on her four poster bed in the Green family home she closed her hazel eyes and took deep breaths to calm herself, trying her best to imagine anything other than Caleb's frustratingly beautiful face that might make her forgive him without a second thought. For weeks, everything had been running smoothly between them, she wasn't entirely sure if there was a label on the two of them but she didn't care - it was what it was, there was no-one else who came close to making her feel the way that Caleb did and she doubted there ever would be and that was enough of a definition for Rory. Today, however, things had taken a very different turn.
It wasn't as though they hadn't fought before, hell, it was all they used to do as children. But the few fights they'd had since that night she had stormed over to his house and demanded he let her back into his life after years of silence had been different somehow. There had been a shift in their relationship, they were no longer just the two kids that had grown up together, kicked each other under the dinner table and tried to see who could jump from the highest branch of the tree to see if they could fly. Aurora saw Caleb in a different light now that they were close again, he had aged significantly in their time apart, the time since his parents' death - he wasn't the same boy she had known, well, he wasn't still a boy.
Running a dainty hand through her long dirty blonde hair, Aurora sighed as she dangled her legs over the edge of her bed and mentally prepared herself for the next few hours ahead of her. For a few months now she had been part of the Order of the Phoenix, and had been going on missions now that she had completed enough training with Caleb to be competent to go with the rest of the members to raids and other such things. As if her schedule hadn't been hectic enough juggling Order training and her school work she'd been training to become an Animagus too - there was barely time to breathe.
By the time she had bounded down the stairs into the hallway of her home she was face to face with Nymphadora Tonks, who didn't look entirely pleased to have been paired with Rory instead of her usual partner, Remus Lupin. "I know," Rory said with a half-smile, "I'm not as full of wolfy charm and all, but I told Shacklebolt to expect casualties if he made me pair up with Caleb today because I swear to Merlin I will kick his ass if he gets within twenty feet of me." Tonks immediately laughed, knowing the feeling well enough herself - oh, teenage males. Luckily today Aurora's parents weren't in, she always hated saying goodbye to them before she went anywhere to do with the Order. Locking the door behind her as they stepped out of her house, Aurora followed Tonks over the road to Caleb's house - they had started meeting there rather than at Grimmauld Place - already apprehensive about seeing Caleb so soon after arguing with him, though she expected nothing less than to at least be ignored, not that she had any intention of speaking to him right now anyway.
Crossing the threshold into the house she knew just as well as her own, Rory made sure to avoid making eye contact with Caleb, mostly for the fear that she might crumble and apologise first if she looked at his face. No, she would not apologise this time. She would focus on the task in hand, being distracted was the last thing she needed with the Order raiding the house of a rumoured Death Eater. Distraction was dangerous, could cost lives. Leaning up against a kitchen counter Rory stood and talked to Tonks whilst the rest of the Order members filed into the room, ready for Kingsley Shacklebolt to go over the details of this mission ahead of them.
CALORA
Suffering from terribly vivid dreams, Aurora’s sleep was anything other than peaceful as she thrashed around in her bed, eventually waking with a start covered in a cold layer of sweat. She sat up in her bed, pulling the covers up around her as she began to shiver, her dreams haunted by the face of a boy with golden hair and bright blue eyes that taunted her – her brother. Aurora had always wanted a sibling despite the fact that Caleb had pretty much been a substitute one as she was growing up, she had longed for someone to complain about her parents to when they were annoying her who understood how she felt whenever they grounded her for getting into another fight with one of the kids in the neighbourhood or for coming home after her curfew. The fact that she did have a sibling and was denied the chance to grow up with him made her livid, it wasn’t fair. But it was far worse than that, he had spent his life believing that he was on the right side of this battle that was looming for a third time. He essentially was being trained to kill her and everyone she loved.
Rory ran a hand through her long hair, twirling a tendril around her fingertips when she reached the ends, she had spent a lot of time holed up in her room sleeping, watching the bruises fade on her skin from her first and entirely disastrous raid with the Order. Although never really being the type of girl who bothered with make-up, she’d had to when she went outside to cover the dark bruise around her right eye – courtesy of Owen Page, who she had now learned had been killed. Although she had never liked the boy, he was always horrible to her, she realised that she had never really wished him dead; he was too young to be completely hated for his choice to be part of the organisation she despised.
Swinging her legs over the side of her bed, Aurora stood up shakily and padded across her bedroom floor to her wardrobe where she pulled out a pair of jeans and a cotton jumper. Discarding her pyjama shorts and tank top for the clothes she had pulled out of her wardrobe, Aurora then stood in front of her mirror and stared at herself. The Gryffindor girl felt horrid, she felt weak and useless and that was a feeling that she entirely loathed – she felt as vulnerable as she looked. Balling her hands into fists at her side as she stared at the slowly fading bruise beneath her eye she scowled at her reflection, reminding herself that this didn’t mean she was weak – Aurora was strong, she was better than this. Pulling her hair back into a messy bun, she sighed at herself in the mirror before she slipped her shoes on and quietly left the safety of her room, it was only midnight but she had slept so much recently that sleep seemed to evade her during the later hours of the night.
By the time she had made it outside of her house, she realised she hadn’t even thought about where to go – she just wanted to be out of the house. Lost in her thoughts, she found herself wandering across the street to the McKinnon manor. She hadn’t seen Caleb for very long over the past few days, she hadn’t known what to say to anyone, let alone the boy who’s advice she had completely disregarded, sprinting after her brother and getting herself beaten up because she had left herself open to attack. Unlocking his door with a flick of her wand, Aurora crept into the house assuming that he would probably be upstairs in his room at this hour. Rory’s head was all over the place, but the only thing she knew at that moment was that she just wanted to be in Caleb’s company as she padded up the stairs and finally into his bedroom.
