i wrote this for a friends bday and didn’t want to lose it, so tumblr also gets it. you are welcome.
Green Creek had a blanket of snow over it. The weather was near biting, but Maggie still loved the way her town looked under the fresh snow fall.
She closed the front door of her home has quietly had possible; Ox and Joe had just fallen asleep after all three of them had stayed up all night with a sick Joe. Apparently the Bennetts didn't handle weather change very well.
She'd been told that Timber had taken Carter to their house. A years worth of construction and another Bennett house had been erected for the eldest Bennett boys and their mates. Not that their original home was small, but sometimes it was nice to have a space of your own.
The tops of her boots disappeared into the snow and Maggie had to restrain herself from playing in it. She was on a mission.Thomas and Elizabeth had promised they were okay, but the way Beth's voice croaked her assurances didn't ease Maggie's worry. She also hadn't seen her friends in a few days, the diner had lost a waitress and left them short staffed. The next town over was hosting their rodeo, so the trafficking coming through always added a bunch of new customers into the fray.
The Bennett house was unlocked, as it always was and Maggie toed off her boots at the door. The house was strangely quiet for once, but whatever tension she held on her shoulders slid off like it normally did when she visited.
Padding across the hardwood floors, she set the pot holding her homemade soup onto the stove to reheat and quietly began to prepare lunch for the two wolves who'd yet to show themselves.
She loved their kitchen, it was large and spacious. Maggie couldn't help but twirl as she worked. Her socks slipping on the hardwood floors as she hummed out a tune. "Why do you only sing when you're by yourself."
Maggie barely held in the shriek that crawled up her throat as she slammed the basket of warmed rolls onto the island.
Two very ruffled and red-faced wolves watched her from the living room. Thomas was shirtless his well maintained body causing Maggie to blush and looks at his wife, who's casual appearance and loose clothes didn't help the situation.
'I-I don't like doing it in front of people. What are you doing out of bed?" Maggie tried to find her mom voice, but it faltered when Beth padded over to Maggie, Thomas close behind.
"We smelled the food and... you." Beth's nose was gentle as the tip of it trailed from Maggie's temple and to her chin before placing a chaste kiss on her lips. Thomas' hand was a warm presence on her hip; his free hand turning her head away from his wife to steal his own kiss. "Come eat with us, we've missed you."
Maggie sputtered out a protest as the wolves swept around her, preparing the food she'd brought them and adding an extra bowl. "I came here to take care of you! Not the other way around!" Her protests were ignored as the duo ushered her to the large couch and surrounded her on either side. Blankets pulled down from the back of the couch and wrapped around each other as Thomas turned on the TV.
"Hush, little bird." Thomas admonished Maggie as she attempted to rise from the couch. His strong arm wrapping around her waist and pulling her back down. "Sit and eat before we decide you look tastier than this food you worked so hard on." A losing battle as always when one was opposing the Bennett's Maggie gave up fighting them, but didn't start eating until until they did.
Keen gaze making sure they drank the tea as well. After they'd finished she rose to look for medicine, but was thwarted once more. Elizabeth now the one to tuck Maggie against her, Thomas stretching out on the couch; his head in her lap. "We'll be fine, birdy. Let us enjoy you for a little bit. Hmm?" Thomas's voice rumbled as Beth stretched out on the other side of her, One thigh dedicated to a head as the wolves almost immediately fell asleep.
