Caleb simply shook his head, as he pulled his phone from his pocket.
Connor listened as Caleb explained the situation then answered what sounded like an interrogation as he answered questions from whoever he was talking to on the other end. “I take it that it wasn’t Mathias,” he smiled, he couldn’t imagine Mathias asking that many questions but his boyfriend might.
“I was talking to Mathias until he handed the phone over to Tony,” Caleb said, returning his phone to his pocket. “I got the impression they weren’t too surprised that we suspect Karissa’s involvement”.

Quinn and Phoenix enjoy one last interlude before breaking things off between them. They know to continue their illicit affair only endangers the dimensions they are protecting.
Quinn returns to her dimension to find Caleb Gray in Moonlight Falls looking for a way to bring his children home from the future. She offers help if he agrees to her terms. He’s reluctant to believe her until she brings Emmaline there and he knows that he’ll do whatever she asks of him to bring his son home too.
Quinn goes to Adam and Keenan. She tries to get Keenan to lose his temper by telling him how much he’s like Silver. Adam keeps it from going too far. She gives them amulets to hide them from Silver but Adam almost refuses as it puts the rest of his family in more danger as Silver could use them to get to him. She explains it’s necessary in order for Adam to restore peace in Moonlight Falls and keep them going to war. It’s then that Adam realizes how much time has gone by. What felt like a couple of days to them was several months.
Kimberly is taken prisoner by the werewolves and thrown into the dungeons beneath the castle.
Quinn goes to Caleb to see if he’s ready to agree to her terms. Save his family in exchange for one of his grandchildren. She’ll use them to travel through time fixing the timeline from all the errors that Emit missed.
Chase meets Quinn and knows that once a dimension watcher is awakened how close their dimension is to being reset destroying everything and everyone in it. She tells him that his daughters are creating an imbalance as they neither belong in the present nor the future. She promises to give him time to train them to be timekeepers then they must go to Phoenix’s dimension where it’ll balance both dimensions.

Caleb hadn’t often found time to himself these days. He had spent most days with his father, trying to find a way to connect. Saving the world, according to his father, was also on the menu but Caleb found that a very slow process. Today, Caleb had taken his free time to visit Star’s grave. The grim reaper had allowed her a resting ground on the property of his own estate, as opposed to Bridgeport where she had died all those years ago. Caleb didn’t think he could visit that crash site and still be the man he was today. He closed his eyes and hummed a tune. Their song. “If you’re the one for me, then I’ll be your hero.” He wasn’t much of a hero. He couldn’t protect her and look what that cost him. Did that mean they weren’t ever meant to be? No, he knew what he felt when he was with her. That much as real.
“Your voice is as beautiful as ever.” Caleb looked up and saw Star there, just as lovely as when she was alive. She floated next to him, gazing upon her grave alongside him. “Why are you here?”
“I wanted to see you,” He said, reaching out to touch the apparition. He had seen her a few times before, each visit as brief as the next. “I had a memory about a girl that I thought I was in love with, but it turns out it was fake.”
“So you wanted to see if what you remembered about me was true too, huh” Star asked. “Well, what did you find?”
“I love you,” He replied, picking at the grass beneath him. “I loved you then and I love you now. It’s always been the same.”
Star knelt down by Caleb. “Don’t do this to yourself,” She whispered. He couldn’t look up at her, though she could see the tears in his eyes. “Please, go be happy. I’m dead.”
“We never had a real shot,” He mumbled. “I never had got the opportunity to love you like you deserved. I can’t move on from that.”
“I think your love would be too much,” She said thoughtfully, putting her arms around his body. “I think you shouldn’t waste your beautiful heart on a dead girl like me. Please, Caleb.” He felt her soothing touch for only a moment more, before he was alone in Grim’s cemetery, staring at the chunk of stone that had meant almost everything to him.
“Do you really think I could replace you?” this was one of the drabble events hosted on @legendofsim‘s discord.
Andrew stared at the man, sure his eyes were lying to him. "Dad" he asked stepping forward "this can't be happening. You're dead. I saw your gravestone next to...." His head jerked around looking searching disappointment making his face drop.
"It's really me" Caleb said stepping forward "I've missed you son."
"Hah" the sound exploded from deep within him.
"What makes you think I haven't" his tone pained as if he'd been hurt.
Nodding towards a group not far away "them" he mumbled. He knew he was being childish...maybe even unreasonable. He couldn't help it. It hurt to see the man you looked up to most with an entirely different family. One he wasn't a part of.
"What was I supposed to do" he asked "I didn't ask for this. Was I supposed to not live the life that was given me?"
"No" he mumbled "it's just..."
"Just what" Caleb asked moving closer to the son he never thought he'd see again. "You can talk to me. I'm still your dad."
"It's like you never missed us at all. Like we were replaced." He wiped at the tears streaming down his cheeks. After all these years he should have had thicker skin.
"Is that what you think" Caleb asked "Do you really think I could replace you?"
Nodding Andrew looked away "I know it's not true it's just the way it feels."
Pulling him close Caleb hugged him close "you're my son. Nothing can ever change that. Your irreplaceable."

Holiday Helpers is COMPLETE! It turned out the exact opposite of what I expected, but I’m still proud of it nevertheless. Chapter 9 is the last official chapter sitting at 2.8k words. After it, you can read:

which ties the story back to my legacy, A Graying World. This won’t make much sense if you’re not familiar with the plot of my current generation, but has absolutely no bearing on Danica and Kenzie’s story, so you do not have to read past chapter 9 if you want to find out what happens to the Crumps sisters next. In fact...I left it kind of open because I will be continuing their story in a totally separate challenge, but I’ll announce then when I decide what I want to do.
