Why do you think aromanticism could save them?: Calculester is a former library computer/printer that became sentient. This is kind of important, since he is very clear throughout the series that he is/sees himself as an object, and does not have emotions. He laments not having emotional experiences like his monster friends like being scared or sad, even though he very much has similar processes and reactions that he could call emotions if he wanted to — it seems like he views himself as an unfeeling machine as a core part of his identity, and is uncomfortable when his friends overlook this fact. 

Which makes his discussion of having romantic feelings sound out of character and a symptom of writers not understanding aromanticism. He is incredibly sexual and it would make sense if, in canon, he assumed that in order to want a sexual relationship with someone he had to want a romantic one as well. Also, the only mention of aromantics in the series that I can remember is referencing a literal non-sentient plant, arguing against another character that mistook Calc and one of his plants as a couple by claiming “all plants are aromantic and asexual, and therefore a bad match for a robot looking to learn about and experience life”. This is sort of a silly point because Calc constantly talks to and has relationships with non-sentient objects (he tries to get one of his plants into college, his first partner was a pen drive), and also sucks really hard to see if you’re aro and/or ace and trying to date him, so I think Calc should be aro as compensation < 3
