“What number was I at again?” Harry thought to himself as he held his audio recorder in front of him, eyebrows furrowed as he stared at his array of journals, notes, and computer screens across his large desk. The desk was a part of a small room which included an air mattress and boxes upon boxes across the floor; there was only a hallway leading out to the entrance of the bunker-like, underground room that he was living in for the past... was it months? He didn’t even remember.
The Meta-Human cure was just around the corner---just a means away from his grasp, and yet... he never seemed to get to the end. Whenever he got close, it would get destroyed.
It was discouraging at the least, but he knew that he needed to fix his wrongs that came from the Accelerator. He blamed himself for every single thing that happened afterwards, which meant that anything in The New Era was listed under “H.W.’s Fault” for him.
A sigh was let out as he pressed pause on the audio recorder, allowing his head to drop down and rest against his palms. “What am I doing...?” he asked to himself, frustrated beyond compare. “I need to keep going... but... how?”
Before he could continue in his self-loathing, he heard something either fall or shatter in the other room of the lab. Harry’s head perked up in response, his chest tightening and his heart beating quicker from the anxiety that was starting to course through his veins.
Being a man of science, he didn’t have any weapons other than his tech. A flashlight was lifted from his desk, only the soft blue light from the computer and tablet screens lighting the room. “Who’s there?” he piped up as he stood from his seat, almost certain it would be the same-old type of situation as it has been for a while---Meta-Human comes to take him down, he escapes with an inch of his life, finds another hideout, and starts again.
However, he had no idea that this would be completely and UTTERLY different than all of those times.
