In fact, when she firsts books the plane ticket to whatever city Beck is in this month, she doesn’t really think about anything. It's a last minute, spur of the moment kind of thing--a knee-jerk reaction to missing him just a little bit more than usual after a particularly exciting Skype call. She books the ticket before she can really think about whether she has the money or the time to visits him and gets on a flight the next morning.

He’s surprised, of course, because Ryan’s pretty much by-the-book when it comes to these things. (She waits for breaks and she saves up the money and she makes sure to beg her parents for permission first. None of these things were done this time around.) But after the initial shock comes and goes there is excitement and happiness and Oh my god, Ry, I really can’t believe you’re here! You’re here.

Two hours after her flight’s landed they’re lying on the overly comfy hotel bed, unwilling to do anything for the moment but cuddle because they can. There are sights to see and things to do (because though Ryan acted irrationally, she’s still sensible and she’s still going home in forty-eight hours), but for now, they can’t do anything but enjoy each other’s company. Ryan’s feet barely brush against Beck’s knees and she takes a moment to appreciate the feeling of lying against him, the feeling of her head on his chest and his nose in her hair.

“Hmm?” She doesn’t register what he says at first, but quickly replies once she gets it. “Oh, thanks.” Her voice is soft and she flushes, wondering if she should tell him about the scent she bought as soon as he left after visiting her the last time. “It’s, um, kind of like yours. Your scent didn’t stick to my pillow for long enough so I went and bought the closest smelling body wash I could find.” Ryan’s whole body warms up at the confession and she wonders why she’s embarrassed. They’re dating, after all. Isn’t that what people who are dating do?

There’s a moment of silence and she wants to--has to--say something to diffuse the situation. “I really missed you,” she settles on, and curls her body even more, even though she’s impossibly close to him. 

"I sat down with Emmit and wrote my vows on a napkin, so you’ll, uh, have to excuse the lack of formalities here.
