CAGED FLOWERS (Finale) · About the series · The purpose of the series was to explore feminism through poetry using the image of a caged flower. What actually happens to a flower when it is caged? - Dare I say it? - Nothing. It does not need much mobility anyway. The stalk grows as strong, the petals remain glorious and the wind still blows its seed onto fertile ground. And, sometimes, those very "cages" provide a surface for the vines to grow! · "Cages" in a woman's life are inevitable, even in our world today where women's empowerment is a topic well received in public discourse. We face many barriers, some intrinsic (anyone heard of menstrual cramps, morning sickness and the much dreaded biological clock?) and others extrinsic (think unequal pay and the like). They do cause damage and it'll be silly to pretend they don't exist. But I would like to submit to you that we women are able to rise above the blockades. CAGED FLOWERS (Part 2) . What do I see out there jailed in obscurity Stupendous splendour and beautiful flavour That thrills our eyes and our noses Yet, caged in our homes Lavenders and roses . Oh Caged Flower! . Will you be anything else but caged Do you have dreams of day in the fields And wishes of songs in colourful gardens Where dancing butterflies play Enchanted by your flavour and splendour Your fragrance, refreshing from afar Do you have wishes of the trees that line the boulevards And the birds that sing from dawn to dusk Spreading wings in day that take them places Do you have dreams of freedom .
