Berkeley: Caffe Strada
It’s easy to see how culture shapes behavior. Now that we’ve moved to Berkeley, I bike to and from work, something I’ve never done before. I eat gluten-free food (okay, I’ve done that for years). I go hiking.
On a sunny Saturday, we stopped at Caffe Strada and drank our coffee amidst a sea of students on Macs before meeting up with one of my coworkers for a hike. Even with the caffeine, we ended up sore and spent three hours later (while my coworker doubled up and back down the hill for more exercise). I guess we’re not full Californians yet.

"I edit computer science manuscripts myself. Usually intermittently – and mostly unwillingly"
Hobo's playing chess with what appears to be a chemistry professor
hobo apologizes in advance for making supposed chemistry professor angry ... again. Talking to a computer sciences student from Washington State (who appears Pakistani – which garnered the question), interested in chess at Caffe Strada. They've been playing chess for 20 years around here, half a century in Berkeley. The man looks like Leonardo da Vinci and Jesus combined. He plays wicked fast chess with the thought-to-be chemistry professor.
