Grace's Café of the Week
I'd like to dedicate this review to my Tumblr Wizard, Gabrielle McKenna (elegance-in-simplicity) who taught me how to master my blog. Thank you x
Since recommending Krimper, I have received feedback from friends that have investigated the venue and shared their views as well as their own recommendations.I love receiving your feedback and recommendations - so thank you and keep them coming x
That being said, I have decided to review another café which is close by to Krimper , and that area is filled with great places such as Short Stop and N2! It works well for your Melbourne tour! Although to be totally honest with you, my decision was influenced by the St Kilda Festival which ends this Sunday. I decided to choose a place that offered similar relaxing vibes. But I'll leave it up to you on whether you decide to tailor your day by visiting my recommendation before or after the festival, or leave it for another time– up-to you. (Sunday evenings is is also their Live Acoustic sessions *hint*?*hint*) ....Anyway..
1000 £ Bend Café was one of the first places I had ever discovered in Melbourne, and has remained my favourite ever since. It has changed over the years, but has still managed to keep its uniqueness (although I do miss that Foosball machine.)It’s THE first place I would take someone visiting Melbourne just because it sums up our city and the scene we've got going for ourselves so well. Either way, it’s a great cultural place
It’s retro, vintage, street smART and grungy, but it attracts a contrast of the hipster student, the timeout subscriber or just the everyday life liver. Its location resides near Melbourne Central, so it’s not too difficult to find. It’s an awesome place for catch ups, even though the space is open and the sound bounces around; it doesn't throw your focus off your conversations. In saying that though, it's very popular around the busy times of the day, so keep that in mind depending the time you decide to visit (Krimper is always around the corner and a good back up place in case seats are hard to come by).

The music playlist for 1000 £ Bend is like a shazam session. Their beats set off an awesome vibe with plenty of moments and flashbacks. You might find yourself bopping along in your chair to the beats of the 80s or the latest electronic or acoustic tracks. Or you could just be bopping along to the sound of your coffee being made wink emoticonThere is always something new happening at Bend. It’s a café by day and a bar at night. It seems unfair to limit it to one thing, just because they offer so much to their customers
Visualize the Bend Imagine a warehouse space… THE FRONT SECTION is the café/bar/dining. THE BACK AREA is a huge empty space with a disco ball & a bar. This space is hired out for versatile events such as MSO, 90s Karaoke Night, Wrestling Matches, Circus Carnivals, Markets, Galleries, and I've even seen an Ice Rink in there during Music Week. They'll let you pop your head in to check out the space, as well as to see how different companies have utilized and transformed the space. UPSTAIRS is used for film launches and movie screenings.
THE MENU:
Their menu has recently changed, with more variety for brekky, and their burgers and quesadillas are heaven-sent. Their coffee is well-made with love and their choice of soft drink is organic, but definitely quenches your thirst. AND may I just add that their prices are incredibly cheap for food & beverage lovers. I’ve highlighted a few specials to take note of but please find more listed in the breakdown. Enjoy.
I could ramble on about the Bend for hours, but I’ve gotta leave something for you to find which no doubt you will. Just remember that the small quirks and details highlight the venue more so than the loud decorations, so if you have an eye for detail, you’re sure to enjoy!
(Note to all my musician friends: 1000 £ Bend showcases Melbourne's acoustic artists every Sunday evening. Shoot them an email to secure your spot or check out what they have to offer here.)
