On 5/8 (my birthday!), I planted a plant that I bought last December and kept in a pot till I could figure out where to put it:  a baby Buckeye (Aesculus californicus). This is a multi-trunked tree, beautiful in all seasons, that is planted widely in the Bay Area, where I used to garden. When I found one at Theodore Payne, I couldn’t resist buying it. They assured me it can do equally well in SoCal, so here’s hoping.
