what she stumbled upon wasn’t planned. neither were the words that left without any direction. she didn’t seek to comfort the woman, she didn’t know how. she was choking on something other than her own words and struggling way past keeping a strong facade. 

she was crumbling and cass didn’t care. she couldn’t find it in herself to. she couldn’t find any version of herself, not in the past or the future that might resemble the girl’s state. it was difficult and a matter of circumstance.

but she could help. there’s a sigh, it’s the only movement she’s given since the female began her descent and if she’d begun crying right there well cass might’ve left. the girl wasn’t looking for help, that much she knew but cass didn’t have empathetic stamped on her forehead. it was reserved for those who could afford it.

she moves, quickly and not to get out the female’s way, it’s to proceed to her friend’s locker, the reason she was here in the first place. she pulls out her boxing gloves, old and used but fine nonetheless. finally turning to the female, she presents her chance. “put 'em on.” she didn’t have to, but cass wasn’t doing this for her own sake. 

“you’re frustrated ‘bout somethin’ right? put ‘em on an’ i want ya’ to swing my way. at all ‘of ‘em. every last damned problem that’s got you pent up.” she holds them out. “you can cry if I leave you here or you can do y’self a favor. ain’t gonna hurt me either so don’t worry ‘bout it.”
