The shoot had been one of the most grueling Apollo had ever worked on; this director was out of his mind and the crew were just as nuts, spending inordinate amounts of not only money but time on the practical effects of this admittedly rather cheesy sci-fi adventure. For Apollo it was a gig like any other, they only hired him to look pretty -- in this case, a half-naked space-barbarian set to break down the tough-as-nails heroine's defenses and ultimately make her his jungle bride. It was basically Tarzan in space, but with a big laser-firefight at the climax. Thankfully, the shoot hadn't gone over schedule and they'd had enough left in the budget to throw a lavish wrap party and invite the entire cast and crew.
It wasn't the first time Apollo had seen the kid on the pyrotechnics crew, but it was the first time he'd seen him without a big headset and soot on his face. They were across the room from one another, the informal cliques of 'cast' and 'production crew' and 'money men' mingling in small knots, but Apollo's gaze kept drifting over to eye up the youth. Now that he could get a good look at him, the idea of celebrating in his own way gelled into certainty.
He found an excuse to break away, and meandered over to where Icarus had wound up, putting on a charming smile as he snagged a drink from a table along the way. "Between you and me," he said, leaning his hip against a convenient table as he sipped his drink, "this party has all the thrills of a middle-school ice cream social. What d'you say we ditch this snoozefest and go find something fun to do?"
