Heaven Knows || Adrien & Evelyn
It was perfectly feasible to go out for drinks with someone whose entire life philosophy you disagreed with, right?
Evelyn let out a slight huff as she fixed her hair in her bathroom mirror - even if she wholly disagreed with what Adrien was, she was never going to pass up a chance to look pretty and show off. Whatever part of her that she’d left behind in London, she still managed to cling on to that aspect.
Hair down would do best, perfectly swept around her shoulders, spilling over them just slightly. This was drinks somewhere that was far from overly fancy, but looking good was still key. Nothing out of place. She pulled on a simple yet elegant dress - black, just low cut enough to stray from being modest, and a flare-out from her hips. Fit her perfectly, it had been shipped over from London, from a designer who’d fitted a number of dresses for her before. Who was paid enough (and threatened with loss of a job) to not tell her father where she was.
Dell’s was as good a place as any to meet, Evelyn thought to herself as she pulled on low cut black boots and fastened a necklace around her neck. She grabbed a new coat from her closet and pulled it on, before exiting her home and making her way over to her car. She was due to meet Adrien in half an hour, and it wouldn’t take more than ten minutes to drive to Dell’s, which worked out very well for her. Being early for social engagements like this one gave her a leg up, and besides, she would be able to try and spot a table to ensure that the two of them had the most ideal time possible.
Because for all that Evelyn did loathe Adrien’s species and for all that she shuddered at what he did, he was not the worst person she could spend time with. He’s a murderer, she reminded herself, remembering Melanie’s body, and Melanie’s face when she’d returned, back from the dead. Because someone just like Adrien had thought that she deserved to die because of what she was. Adrien was just as awful as Melanie’s killer - but she found him fascinating and easy to talk to - worse still, found herself almost wishing that he were just human, because then everything would be much more simple.
She’d be more like her mother in ways she did not wish to be, but which were likely inevitable to some degree, given how much like humans Mara could look.
Shaking herself out of her thoughts, she entered her car and turned on the ignition, making it to Dell’s in only seven minutes. Evelyn parked the car and opened the door, making her way over to the tavern. She leaned against the outside of the building and pulled out her phone, waiting for Adrien to arrive. She could have easily waited inside, but waiting out here felt better, somehow - letting the cold air brush against her skin as she pulled out her phone, scrolling through a few messages and Google alerts - her father was hosting his annual holiday party, Kate and William were due to be guests. Evelyn clicked away from the news article and looked up, noticing Adrien making his way toward her. She let her lips curve into a smile and pushed herself off of the wall, making her way over to him.
“It’s lovely to see you again,” she glanced up at him, “I think it is not too terribly busy, so we ought to be able to find space without too much trouble. If you are up for going in now?” She arched an eyebrow and began to walk towards the entrance. “I’ll even buy the first round.”
