Social media... buy this.. and that
Makeup is seen all over shelves at stores, promoted all over online by using social media and is used nationwide . The beauty industry is a highly competitive marketplace where numerous brands coexist making a diverse amount of products for everyone (Yupelmi, Mimi 2500). Social media, a worldwide used platform is heavily perceived and used by people of all ages. Trends such as "get ready with me" videos, makeup tutorials, and beauty product reviews circulate platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok .
I had tik tok ever since I was in middle school, or previously known as musically. Influencers all over this platform would always be wearing makeup, or even using filters such as the beauty filter. As a younger girl this got me intrigued as to how these people did their makeup, and what products they used or owned. These trends as shown on social media are not only a form of entertainment for those watching, but it is also informational and seen as a resource to encourage those to try these products, or a certain makeup look.
Brands often promote their products through social media to bring a new set of consumers in (Smith, Rosanna 103). A new popular job, or passion that has been taken up is social media influencers. These are the type of people that promote different brands and products on their social media page which often have large following counts and are extremely well known. These influencers would often create makeup looks, showing these products that they would use, and therefore encouraging users to become interested (Knowledge, HBS Working). The community that social media has created alone has had such a huge impact on how the beauty industry has flourished.
