Spook Of The Day #113 • The legend of Nan Tuck has cursed the Buxted Woods and nothing can grow there
Our story starts in the 17th century, and out scene is set in Rotherfield.
Local legend claims Nan Tuck poisoned a man and attempted to flee from the hustice system by climbing iver hedges and hiding in hay. Her aim was not to outrun the law, however, but to take sanctuary in a local church.
If one could reach a church and touch an altar they could escape punishment by right of asylum. Unfortunately, she didn’t make it to the church, and was chased into the woods.
She was never seen again.
To this day, a small circular patch of lands in the woods remains unfertile, and nothing will grow there since she disappeared.
You aren’t sleeping tonight either? Sorry about that. While you’re there, why not check out the other ghost stories I post everyday?
