K so all my observations of jelly palms just need to be put to genus level until I can figure out how to actually tell Butia odorata from Butia capitata. And tell the difference between different characteristics that define species and characteristics that distinguish individuals.
Are these fruits different (in size, the larger one is more beat up because it got carried far in a bucket with other ones) because they're from different species, or is this just the normal level of variety between different individuals?
The smaller one has a spherical seed, the larger one has seeds that are oval shaped.
[ID: A photo of a pair of white hands holding small orange fruits for the camera. One is smaller and more evenly round, with pristine light orange skin. The other is larger and more squat, with slightly bruised skin that is slightly lighter orange. End ID.]
