Do you think a part of the criticism this season has been the lack of loustat. There were similar takes last season too but at least we had dreamstat
Absolutely. And it's not an unfounded criticism tbh Lestat isn't in the second half of the IWTV hardly at all, except for just a few mentions of him by Louis, but the show took one of those mentions, one where Louis talks about expected to see him + a scene before Louis and Claudia leave New Orleans where he talks about hearing Lestat talk to him, though Lestat is "dead," and they gave us Dreamstat. Dreamstat isn't, of course, crazy present because his scenes are very limited in 2.01 (but SO important) and he only has a tiny scene in 2.02, while we get a decent amount of Dreamstat in 2.03 and 2.04, paired with a lot of Paris!Lestat from Armand's POV that genuinely takes up the first 15-ish minutes of that episode.
And even though Dreamstat is gone after 2.04, and there is little to no Lestat in 2.05 and 2.06, a lot of 2.05 is still about Lestat and Lestat is verrrry actively present in 2.07 and 2.08.
Though Louis has had scenes this season and has appeared in every episode, it's the lack of Lestat actively thinking about or seeing Louis that I think is truly bothering people. And he hasn't. That's just a fact. And while I get Lestat's past doesn't have anything to do with Louis, I do think some more appearances of DreamLou just to show that Louis was more on his mind would have helped a lot.
It is what it is, but I think it's a valid criticism when the show did so well including Lestat in a piece of book he genuinely doesn't exist in, and doing so by doubling down on the Loustat of it all.
