LORDT. rereading "Dark Heart" for reasons and like. Marduk has met Burias maybe half an hour ago (and Burias is an absolute baby who's barely in real power armor) and now they've mostly killed a guy together after a clumsy battle and then Marduk wants to do daemon summoning shit that he's not supposed to know about, and he says, "Can I trust you, brother?"
And Burias without missing a beat says, "Of course. Always."

A voice cackled behind him, "Well, well. Look what happened to you."
Burias gritted his teeth, "I'll kill her."
Urkanthos walked into his line of sight, "And the corpse will bring her back. Come with me."
"Why should I trust you?" Snarled Burias.
The Prince leaned down, "Because I wasn't just banished. Come, I have plans against this harlot of the corpse."
Just read page 354 of the word bearers omnibus and I can say with full certainty that Burias is indeed a good (murder)boy

Possessed are so very fascinating to me. I like that GW isn't very fixed in their description on how they work, how control is established and how much of demon and warrior remains.
A demon taking possession of an Astartes host for the first time apparently needs a lot of things going right and has no margin for error. If the host isn't well prepared and attuned enough, the demon will just wear him like a flesh suit, form him to its will and then remain in control. Like Engel'saak did with poor Iagon. Or Tormageddon. Or Abaddon's goons. Or countless others.
Also, it's not the same as ascending to demonhood like Julius Kaesoron did. Or the Radiant tried to.
Word Bearers have a much higher quota of successful mergings than other Legions, because they are way more intimately accustomed to handling demons. But that does not mean other Chaos Space Marines can't be in-control-Possessed.
