GOOD AFTERNOON, and thank you for tuning in to the WIRELESS WIZARDING NETWORK ! For our transmission today we’re pleased to present BURIAL SOCIETY’S eighth task –– bring out your cauldron and call over someone who loves you !

Our eighth task requests from everyone who is willing to do to imagine what a properly brewed amortentia potion might smell like to someone who had fallen in love with your character. What scents are so strongly associated with them that the person who loves them would be reminded of them by their smell?

Your task, should you accept it, is to compile a list of scents that are strongly associated with your character.

Try to come up with at least four scents, but no more than eight. We wouldn’t want to overwhelm our senses !

For each scent, elaborate in a few sentences on the association it has with your character. Is it a note of the perfume they wear daily? Is it a scent that is usually present in their home? 

This task, like all tasks and prompts, is not mandatory and may be completed at any time.

                   fresh  grass  stains.         while  quidditch  is  a  sport  of  the  air,  the  doesn’t  mean  thaxter  does  not  get  down  and  dirty.  he  learned  to  throw  and  catch  the  quaffle  on  the  ground,  continues  to  enjoy  outside  activities  generally,  and  recently  has  been  teaching  his  little  brother  to  throw  as  well.  it’s  not  unfrequently  that  thaxer’s  clothes  are  stained  slightly  green,  and  for  a  little  while  after,  they  carry  the  scent  of  grass  with  it.

                   brylcreem  hair  gel.        it’s  not  that  thaxter  has  any  particular  attachment  to  the  brand,  it’s  just  the  first  thing  he  got  his  hands  on  and  has  always  been  easy  to  find  again.  it  leaves  his  hair  smelling  slightly  of  citrus,  though  not  overpoweringly  so.

                   tobacco.       thaxter  started  smoking  cigarettes  with  his  maternal  grandfather  when  he  was  sixteen.  it’s  not  something  he  does  everyday,  but  often  enough  to  celebrate  or  to  deal  with  stress....    the  smoke  builds  up,  imbedding  its  scent  into  his  clothing,  especially  his  jackets.

                   quidditch  leather.         during  the  season,  he  practically  lives  in  his  equipment,  and  if  he  isn’t  wearing  it,  it  is  hanging  up  by  a  window  to  air  out.  while  there  a  certain  odor  of  sweat  to  the  items,  the  leather  is  the  more  noticeable  one,  having  been  worn  and  retreated  just  so.

                   wood  polish.        fleetwood’s  high  finish  handle  polish,  specifically.  thaxter  is  somewhat  obsessive  about  keeping  his  broom  in  the  best  condition  he  can,  and  burns  through  jars  of  it  perhaps  a  bit  quicker  than  he  should.

                   damp  earth.        thaxter  loves  practicing  in  the  morning,  when  the  ground  is  still  damp  and  the  sun  isn’t  overly  hot.  the  cool  air  both  wakes  him  up  and  makes  him  feel  as  if  he  can  do  more,  and  trudging  through  the  dew  damp  grass  of  the  pitch  has  become  somewhat  of  a  ritual.  it’s  left  behind  on  his  boots  and  the  edge  of  his  quidditch  robes.

                   night  air.         unless  it  is  truly  teaming,  thaxter  prefers  to  leave  the  windows  to  his  apartment  open.  it’s  never  in  risk  of  developing  a  musty  smell  that  needs  to  be  aired  out,  though  there  are  a  few  books  that  have  become  bloated  for  being  left  on  a  window  sill  the  night  before  it  rained.

                    earl  grey  tea.          appearing  in   his  own  amortentia,  it  started  out  as  simply  his  preference,  but  after  brewing  a  cup  each  morning   (  at  least  ),  grew  to  have  an  association  of  reliability.  however,  he  brews  it  often  enough  in  his  apartment  that  the  smell  of  black  tea  leaves  and  bergamot  lingers  slightly  even  when  the  kettle  isn’t  on.

                    acqua  di  parma  colonia.         the  lighter  smelling  cologne  was  quite  popular  in  the  thirties,  and  is  currently  resurging  again  due  to  celebrity  association.  he  had  been  gifted  a  bottle  by  his  aunt  for  christmas  when  he  was  twenty  two,  but  hadn’t  started  wearing  it  regularly  until  his  return  to  the  uk  in  the  past  three  years.  it  smells  of  citrus,  rosemary,  lavender,  and  sandalwood.

                    thyme.        a  common  enough  herb  in  cooking  he’s  used  to,  that  he  keeps  a  bundle  of  it  hanging  above  his  kitchen  counter. 

                    vanillin  and  benzaldehyde.          when  lignin,  a  compound  found  in  the  paper  used  to  print  books  and  sheet  music,  as  well  as  to  construct  covers  for  records,  breaks  down,  it  becomes  vanillin  and  benzaldehyde.  the  smell  is  somewhat  akin  to  vanilla  and  almonds,  but  not  quite,  and  thanks  to  the  collection  of  books  and  records  in  his  apartment   (  and  even  some  old  sheet  music  hidden  away  as  well  ),  both  chemicals  are  present  in  large  quantities  in  his  living  space.

                    typewriter  ribbon  ink.        taliesin  avoids  writing  by  hand  if  he  can,  which  means  using  the  charmed  typewriter  his  mother  purchased  for  him.  however,  even  though  it  is  magical,  the  ribbon  still  needs  to  be  replaced  by  hand,  and  the  same  for  jams.  taliesin  is  sometimes  left  with  small  stains  on  his  fingers,  leaving  the  lingering  scent  of  ink.

                    charmed  aftershave.        another  product  he’s  used  more  regularly  since  returning  home  in  the  past  three  years.  taliesin  prefers  to  remain  cleanshaven,  but  the  task  is  somewhat  difficult  to  do  himself.  he  found  a  wixen  barber  who  made  an   ‘  aftershave  ’   that  slowed  growth,  so  he  didn’t  have  to  come  in  as  often.

                    hawthorn  berries.         hawthorn  berries  are  a  natural  beta  blocker,  helping  to  lower  levels  of  epinephrine  in  the  body,  and  thus  can  help  taliesin  reduce  his  tremor  to  a  certain  extent  before  events  he  might  expect  it  to  worsen  at   (  as  levels  of  stress  can  increase  the  severity  ).  he  keeps  a  jar  of  dried  hawthorn  berries  in  his  kitchen  and  will  often  add  them  to  tea.
