Take time today to think about the atrocities that are being committed at our southern border. It is difficult to celebrate this country's independence when so many people are being mistreated. Immigrants and refugees are seeking a better life fleeing war, violence, and starvation only to be treated as less than human by our government. #SeekingAsylumIsLegal Keeping children in cages is something I never would imagine could happen in the United States without the entire country, and especially the government, rallying to put an end to the practice. It is beyond despicable and is just one aspect of the degradation of our democracy. People are people. Period. It does not matter where or how people come into the United States. Everyone should be treated with basic human rights. This most certainly includes the right to food, water, shelter, health, education, love, and basic comforts. I am ashamed and appalled at what this country has become in just the past two years. This is happening in the United States but do not forget those also suffering in the rest of the world, especially Sudan and Yemen.
