Bug Quest: Introduction
In the time before history, the Titans ruled the world. The ground shook beneath their feet, and they built many monuments to their gods of lightning, light, wind, fire, and more. They changed the land, sea, and sky. The changed the lay of the land in their quest to dominate it. And the whole time, the ancestors of the People hid in their shadows, beneath their homes, in the places the Titans hadn't yet claimed, surviving off of their scraps, barely comprehending the world around them, or even themselves.
Then, the Imago happened.
No one knows what the Imago was or how happened. Any records, sparse as they are, describe it as a mist or fog. What is known are its effects. It was Anathema to the Titans, making the god like mountains of flesh choke and collapse, scattering their bones among their ruins. But more importantly, it bestowed consciousness and understanding to the People. Their forms became similar to that of the Titans, though they retained their hard exoskeletons and multiple limbs instead of the Titan's simple design and soft flesh.
In the time since the Imago, much has happened. The Formiana Empire has expanded to cover vast swaths of land, becoming the largest known nation since the Titans. The Arachne became the first to master magic, "weaving" the strands of mana to craft spells. The Rhocera found their font of great power, achieving a long life that is closer to that of the Titan's than any of the other people.
This is a young world whose inhabitants are trying to understand it as they try to understand themselves.
